Sushant Singh Rajput and Shraddha Kapoor-starrer Chhichhore has been a steady earner since its release on 6 September. The college comedy has collected Rs 54.13 crore at the box office in five days.
According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, the film’s box office collection on day 4 (Rs 8.10 crore) was 10.66 percent higher than that of day 1 (Rs 7.32 crore) despite it being a weekday. The film’s total box office collection over its first four days was Rs 44.08 crore.
Chhichhore opened to a box office collection Rs 7.32 crore and saw a jump in collections on day 2. According to the figures released by the producers, the film earned over Rs 12 crore on Saturday, bringing the box office total of the film over its first two days to Rs 19.57 crore. Trade analysts attributed the rise in business to positive word of mouth.
The campus comedy is Sushant's second highest opener after MS Dhoni - The Untold Story (Rs 21.30 crore) and almost at par with his 2018 film Kedarnath.
Chhichhore has earned largely positive reviews from critics for its nostalgia-flecked yet fresh portrayal of college life in India. The film revolves around a group of students who become fast friends after all being assigned to Hostel Number 4 at an engineering college. The ragtag group proudly wear the tag of ‘losers’ and bumble their way through campus life as they try to navigate academic and extra-curricular success, adulthood and women. Years later, the group are reunited by a tragedy which leads them to reminisce about their glory days.
Helmed by by Dangal director Nitesh Tiwari and co-produced by Fox Star Studios and Nadiadwala Grandsons Entertainment, it also stars Varun Sharma, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Naveen Polishetty, Prateik Babbar, Tushar Pandey and Saharsh Kumar Shukla. The film released on 6 September.
