For all those who grew up dreaming of Anil Kapoor’s superpowers in Mr. India, there’s good news. In a recent interview, Boney Kapoor, husband of late actor Sridevi, has confirmed that Mr. India would be getting a reboot version. The original 1987 superhero film starred Anil Kapoor and late Sridevi.
Here’s what Boney Kapoor said in an interview with Midday:
Even three decades later, Mr. India is considered to be an iconic Bollywood film. It follows the story of Arun (Anil Kapoor) who, using an invisibility watch, helps kids and fights evil. The film also starred Amrish Puri as the iconic villain Mogambo.
Boney Kapoor also said that “After Sri, I have even more reason to make the film now."
“#MrIndia was made iconic by its children friendly action scenes & Veeru’s Midas touch. I want to dedicate its 32nd anniversary to the man who made these unforgettable moments possible. #VeeruDevgan was an amazing man & I'm lucky to have worked with him. He is sorely missed...”
Was it a possible hint at this big news? Maybe
While most people are quite ecstatic with this news, many fans are unhappy about Mr. India getting a sequel without Sridevi who was a major part of the film. Here’s what they had to say:
Some have mixed feelings about how difficult sequels can be to pull off.
Mr. India was originally directed by Shekhar Kapur. Answering the question of whether or not he will be directing the sequel, Boney Kapoor said that if Shekhar Kapur has the time, he can. As, at the end of the day, it is the cast and crew of the film that truly make it what it is.
