Anubhav Sinha’s latest directorial Article 15, which hit theatres on 28 June, seems to be winning the hearts of not just Indian viewers but audiences abroad as well. According to a report by Variety, the Ayushmann Khurrana-starrer won the audience award at London Indian Film Festival (LIFF). London Indian Film Festival is Europe’s largest South Asian film festival. The hard-hitting drama opened the 10th edition of London Indian Film Festival and was received very well by international audiences.
“I am so happy that the film actually connected with Indians abroad and with non-Indians alike, who are not facing this version of inequality on a daily basis,” said the director of Article 15, Anubhav Sinha. Anubhav Sinha also helmed Mulk (2018).
London Indian Film Festival was held across several cities in the UK between 20 June - 1 July. To celebrate its tenth anniversary, this year the festival lineup was bold and daring and Article 15 fit just right with the overall theme of the event.
Other Indians who were received accolades at the festival include Harshvardhan Kapoor who received the rising star honour.
Article 15 stars Ayushmann Khurrana in the lead with an ensemble cast comprising Isha Talwar, Sayani Gupta, Manoj Pahwa, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub and more. Loosely inspired from real-life events, the film takes us into a small village in UP where an IPS officer is forced to face the complicated reality of caste and identity politics. The film’s storyline is set against the murder of two young girls who are found hanging from a tree one morning.
