Akshay Kumar and Vidya Balan’s upcoming space mission film Mission Mangal was scheduled to release on 15 August. However, it looks like the release of the film has been preponed due to certain possible clashes at the box office. Mission Mangal is inspired by India’s 2013 Mars space programme Mangalyaan and stars Taapsee Pannu, Sonakshi Sinha, and Sharman Joshi among others.

According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, Mission Mangal’s release has been preponed as it is clashing with John Abraham’s Batla House and Prabhas’ Saaho. Both these films could affect Mission Mangal’s box office performance and neither of their filmmakers seem to have any plans of changing their release dates.

Here’s what a source told the entertainment website:

“The makers of ‘Mission Mangal’ are thinking of preponing the film and looking forward to release the film on August 9, 2019 instead. They [filmmakers] plan to make the official announcement shortly.”

Mission Mangal will be directed by Jagan Shakti and co-produced by PadMan director R Balki along with Akshay Kumar. Earlier, Taapsee Pannu had shared a glimpse of her character from Mission Mangal.

“Kritika Agarwal , Navigation and Communication Department, reporting on duty”, she captioned the photo on Instagram.

Mission Mangal is being touted as India’s first space film. In November 2018, it came into trouble as a woman director had approached Bombay High Court claiming copyright infringement against the film. Radha Bharadwaj had filed a suit seeking a stay on the production and release of the movie, which is about India's 2014 Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM), also known as Mangalyaan.

In her suit, Bharadwaj claims that the movie infringes on the copyright of her original screenplay titled Space MOMs.

Mission Mangal is jointly produced by Fox Star Studios and Cape of Good Films.
