Recently, Akshay Kumar-starrer Housefull 4 topped Twitter trends in India when it flashed on not one but two positions on the chart. The film was featured in two trends - ‘FAKE HOUSEFULL4 FIGURES’ and ‘PAID NEGATIVITY ON HF4’. One section of social media users were of the opinion that the box office figures of the fourth instalment of the Housefull franchise are fake, while another section countered their claims. Not naming any film, producer Ronnie Screwvala had also raised the issue about inflated box office numbers.
Akshay Kumar has finally reacted to this controversy. Speaking to The Quint, he said, “People who are criticising the film and are of the opinion that its box office figures are fudged will only be able to tell you why they didn’t like the film.”
He further said that the distributors, Fox Studios, has international acclaim and they have no reason to inflate figures. “Fox Studios operates from abroad and it is not possible for them to toy with the numbers. These figures are insignificant to them. They make films worth millions of dollars. A mere three, four or five crores don’t matter to them. They have also officially shared the figures,” Akshay said, adding that even INOX has shared the figures and they won’t lie.
“INOX has given its figures and they will never lie. Woh mere mamaji lagte nahi hain (They are not my relatives that they will be biased towards me). All I know is that I already have four films in my kitty and I am yet to give my nod to three more. According to me I am doing pretty well,” the actor said.
A few days back, Ronnie Screwvala had called out trade analysts Taran Adarsh and Komal Nahta for inflating the box office figures of films. “ Isn’t it time everyone reports Box Office numbers accurately! Komal Nahta and Taran Adarsh... accuracy of information builds CREDIBILITY which the movie industry needs so badly ... and not sure how long-to appease egos will Studios and all keep encouraging pumped up data on numbers,” Ronnie tweeted.
He followed it up with another tweet clarifying that it is not directed at any specific film. “Just to clarify that my tweet was not directed at any one movie ( as is being wrongly assumed ) but just an overall comment for the future + my reasons to tag some of the industry authorities was because they can make a difference to the credibility,” he added.
