Akshay Kumar is all set to begin shooting of Lakshmi, the Hindi remake of the hit Tamil horror comedy Muni 2: Kanchana, on Monday, but it will be very different from its original.

According to reports, the actor will not play a man who is easily scared of ghosts like in its original. In fact, he will play a brave man. Plus, he won't be possessed by three ghosts, like in Muni 2: Kanchana, but just one - that of a transgender named Lakshmi.

Also, Kiara Advani, who stars alongside Akshay, will get a meatier role than the original.

Writer Farhad Samji has worked on the script for the Hindi remake.

A Mid Day reports said, “While the premise remains the same, Akshay’s character has been chalked out as one who doesn’t fear the supernatural.”

“In the Hindi counterpart, the sequence where Akshay’s character is possessed by a ghost - the turning point in the story - will take place at Kiara’s house. Her character will play a crucial role in his exorcism. Finally, Akshay will be possessed by one ghost - that of the transgender, Laxmi - and not three ghosts as seen in the Tamil movie.”

The makers also reworked the narrative to create a meaty role for Kiara Advani, who plays Akshay’s wife. In the original film, the hero’s mother and sister-in-law have pivotal parts.”

The sequence where Akshay gets possessed will be shot at Kiara’s character’s home and she will also play a crucial role in his exorcism.

The film is being directed by Raghava Lawrence, who helmed all the three parts of the successful Kanchana franchise, and also acted as the lead in all of them.
