Ajay Devgn’s Raid directed by Raj Kumar Gupta saw a huge growth in collections at the box-office over the weekend. The film which opened at Rs 10.04 crore on Friday, jumped to Rs 17.11 crore on Sunday. With a total first weekend box-office collection of Rs 41.01 crore, Raid has now become the second highest box-office grosser of 2018 after Padmaavat.

Raid

  • Friday: Rs 10.04 crore
  • Saturday: Rs 13.86 crore
  • Sunday: Rs 17.11 crore

Total: Rs 41.01 crore

The success of Raid is a shot in the arm for not just Ajay Devgn but also for director Raj Kumar Gupta, who has previously helmed hits like Aamir, No One Killed Jessica and Ghanchakkar, which broke even at the box-office.

Raid has overtaken Akshay Kumar-starrer PadMan’s weekend box-office collections. Here’s a look at the top weekend box-office numbers of 2018:

Top Weekend Box-Office Numbers of 2018

  • Padmaavat: Rs 114 crore (extended 5-day weekend)
  • Raid: Rs 41.01 crore
  • Padman: Rs 40.05 crore
  • Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety: Rs 26.57 crore
  • Pari: Rs 15.34 crore

While Raid has overtaken Padman by a small margin, it should be remembered that the Akshay Kumar-starrer was preceded by a huge marketing campaign backed by Bollywood celebs, while Raid arrived quietly in theatres and its current run at the box-office is just driven by the film’s content.

With no big release slated for this Friday except Rani Mukerji-starrer Hichki, which belongs to a completely different genre, Raid is likely to continue its positive trend at the box-office thanks to the excellent word-of-mouth it is getting from viewers.
