The release of Raees has not been an easy journey. Firstly, SRK had to head to Raj Thackeray’s house, the chief of the MNS, and give an assurance that Mahira Khan, who hails from Pakistan, will not be part of the promotions following the ban on Pakistani actors in the country. While this ensured a smooth release of the film, SRK’s troubles haven’t stopped there. A PTI report states that the Gujarat wing of the Shiv Sena and the Vishwa Hindu Parishad - is now seeking a ban on film. The reason cited is that the film “glorifies” a real criminal.

India had so many great personalities on whom you can make a movie. But Khan chose Abdul Latif, who was a dreaded criminal, bootlegger and a mafia don. Khan claimed the movie is based on fictional character but everyone knows that Raees is based on Latif.

The politician has also gone on to slam Shah Rukh as he chose to cast a Pakistani national, Mahira Khan, to play the female lead in the film, after she allegedly made anti-India comments in Pakistan.
