‘Tis was that time of the year again - the annual night of Hollywood’s elite strutting around in their breathtaking couture and exquisite diamonds.
Fashion-wise it was the last hurray for this year’s award season and if you committed the mortal sin of missing the pomp and show, check out our gallery below to get the full Fashion Police ruling on all the hits and misses at the Oscars 2016.
Pour yourself a glass (or four) of rosé champagne and behold:
The 40 -year-old stunner was an instant red carpet hit. It’s an unwritten rule that you don’t wear red to the red carpet but the Mad Max beauty wore this uber-sexy plunging neckline Dior ball gown with a mini train and left everyone enthralled.
Her blonde hair, styled to perfection in a simple backwards slick, provided the necessary contrast to the gown’s bold hue. The real showstopper was the gorgeous Harry Winston diamond chain with a heavy pendant and carats and carats of glittering diamonds.
Orange is the new black, literally.
The former Newsroom star was a tangerine dream at the 88th Academy Awards. Her stunning one-shouldered Stella McCartney dress, with a wrap sleeve and a tight skirt accentuated her slim figure.
The dark hair pulled back in a timeless low-bun is a lovely contrast to the matching orange lipstick.
Don’t flutter my heart at the perfection that Tina Fey is at the 2016 Academy Awards.
The comedy goddess slayed the red carpet in a strapless purple Versace gown, stunning sapphire Bvlgari jewellery and looked like the fountain of youth!
And if you saw the awards, Tina was a presenter with fellow comedy mainstay Steve Carell, thereby putting on a mini Date Night reunion.
Ladies and gents, Rachel McAdams is bringing sexy back. Literally.
Best Actress in a Supporting Role nominee for the movie Spotlight, Rachel McAdams chose a backless jade-colored August Getty Atelier halterneck dress and caused some jaws to permanently dislocate with her strong back and some major leg.
Priyanka Chopra stunned Hollywood in a classy, mermaid-cut, strapless Zuhair Murad couture number.
She wore diamond earrings and a no-fuss, stylish hairdo with the dress.
Forget about the perfect dress, Piggy Chops seriously believes that the real bang is in the bling. She dazzled the red carpet with an eye-watering 8 million American dollars worth diamonds!
*Faints*
The Vinyl star’s pleated Maison Valentino dress is glittering, bold and spectacularly elegant.
Olivia Wilde could’ve pulled a brunette Marilyn Monroe at the red carpet with this look, if only we could discount the worst aspect of the ensemble: the bulky choker! Seriously Olivia, good we know it’s a horrendous looking piece of jewellery because it is so easy to confuse it with a pooch’s collar straight from a doghouse.
Why would Versace ever make this lilac, too-much pomp, weird-cleavage-cut-dress? More importantly why did Heidi Kulm not look at the mirror after wearing this awkward-billowing-chiffon-nightmare of an outfit?
And what’s with the random one sleeve?
Some onlookers drew comparisons to Disney’s Cinderella’s Fairy Godmother.
Haha!
To be kind to Heidi’s team, her hair and makeup are perfection. (Does she ever age?)
Amy Poehler’s gown is the biggest fashion faux pas of the evening. Or wait, it’s a tie between Heidi Klum’s purple ombre fabric and this loud cape of a dress for which Amy should fire her stylist.
The dress is overwhelming and it does nothing to accentuate Amy’s frame.
A great 20 something body does not mean you will nail the red carpet look.
Alicia Vikander, 27, certainly didn’t. Not this time.
She has been killing her red carpet appearances off-late but for the biggest night of her career, the under-dramatic, strapless bubble dress with silver embellishments made her look more high school than high fashion.
The only problem with Kerry Washington’s Versace gown is that it is way too modern for a classy evening like the Oscars.
It’s not a disaster but the black leather corset top doesn’t mesh too well with the white flowy skirt - the piece just ain’t too cohesive. Or maybe we don’t like it because we are used to seeing Kerry in elegant silhouettes.
The 30-year-old “Rise Up” singer does not look mellow in yellow.
The ill-fitting one-shoulder gown does not flatter her bust. Someone please undo her look from the Oscar red carpet history.
Reese Witherspoon suffered an awkward fashion faux pas with this strapless purple gown. We’re not talking about the fact that her ensemble is strikingly similar to Tina Fey’s (scroll above to look at Tina Fey’s gown again), the inner black lacy trim looks weird, almost like her bra is peeping over the protruding satin.
Bra-vo, Reese!
