Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami lost to Congress' Bhuwan Chandra Kapri in Khatima, even as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) garnered a clear victory, after surpassing the majority mark.
The saffron party ended up with 47 seats, while the Congress managed to win 19 seats counting in the 2022 Uttarakhand Assembly elections.

The counting of votes for the 2022 Uttarakhand Assembly elections is slated to commence at 8 am on Thursday, 10 March.
A day ahead of counting, the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh Bhupesh Baghel met with former CM of Uttarakhand Harish Rawat, and other party leaders in Dehradun.
Congress in-charge for Uttarakhand Devendra Yadav expressed faith in his workers and candidates, yet endorsed vigilance in light of the poll trends and the "fact that people from BJP tried to approach our candidates."
"We're monitoring," the leader said on Wednesday night.
Congress leader and former CM of Uttarakhand Harish Rawat expressed optimism for his party ahead of the election result declaration. "I believe the Congress will get close to 48 seats," Rawat said, news agency ANI quoted.

Congress trails in Lalkuwa Assembly segment as Harish Rawat falls behind BJP's Mohan Singh Bisht.

BJP leader Suresh Singh Chauhan is leading in Gangotri Assembly segment, as of 10:46 am.
Speaking from Dehradun, Congress leader Harish Rawat maintained that his party was winning most of the seats in the hill state, even as trends indicated otherwise.
"In an hour, these leads will convert into a majority for the Congress in Uttarakhand and it will get a majority in Punjab as well," Rawat said on Thursday morning.

Union minister and state in-charge Pralhad Joshi expressed pleasure at the imminent results, saying that the party, under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi and CM Pushkar Singh Dhami, "gave welfare policies to the people of Uttarakhand and have got expected results."

Congress' Pritam Singh is leading in Chakrata Assembly seat.
BJP candidate Satpal Maharaj is leading from the Chaubattakal Assembly constituency.
After 10 of 11 rounds of counting, Harish Rawat is trailing with 33.36% votes in Lalkuwa.
Congress Party’s Mamta Rakesh has won from Bhagwanpur, defeating Bahujan Samaj Party’s Subodh Rakesh by a margin of 4811 votes.
BJP's Bansidhar Bhagat leads in Kaladhungi by a margin of 24,057 votes.
As the BJP continued to move towards a win, Congress leader Harish Rawat expressed surprise at the results, and said according to ANI:
"I can't understand people saying 'BJP zindabaad' after this," he added.
Further, sharing that they were certain that people will vote for a change, Rawat said: "there must've been a shortage in our efforts".
"I accept it and take responsibility for the defeat," Rawat added before going on to congratulate his daughter and others who have won the election.
Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami, on Thursday evening, said according to ANI:
Dhami himself is presently trailing in the Khatima Assembly constituency.
Taking to Twitter to thank the people of Uttarakhand and to congratulate Pushkar Dhami and Madan Kaushik, as pro-BJP results continue to pour in for Uttarakhand, Home Minister and BJP leader Amit Shah said:
The Bharatiya Janata Party's Madan Kaushik won in Hardwar, defeating Congress Party’s Satpal Brahamchari by 15237 votes.
BJP’s Satpal Maharaj wins in Chaubaktal, defeating Congress party’s Keshar Singh by 11,430 votes.
Garnering 37 seats, BJP crosses the halfway mark, winning state.
The BJP has picked up 39 seats in the state and is leading in another eight seats. The majority mark in the state Assembly for the formation of the government is 36.
As the BJP won the Assembly elections in Uttarakhand, incumbent Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, according to ANI, said:
BJP finishes with 47 seats, while Congress manages to win 19.
