Voting for the third phase of Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections will begin at 7 am.
Voting begins for the third phase of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, which covers 16 districts and 59 constituencies.
"For fear-free, riot-free, crime-free state, for the victory of nationalism, for the creation of 'self-reliant and new Uttar Pradesh' and for the upliftment of the people, all of you must vote...," tweeted Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday morning.
"I appeal to the voters of the third phase of Uttar Pradesh that each and every vote of yours is very important to elect the government which will accelerate development by keeping the state free from familyism, casteism and appeasement. So vote in maximum numbers," Home Minister Amit Shah tweeted on Sunday morning as the polling began.
Senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid and his wife Louise Khurshid, who is also the party’s candidate from Farrukhabad Sadar, cast their vote at a polling booth in the constituency.
"The Punjab elections and the third phase of the UP elections are being held today. I call upon all those voting today to do so in large numbers, particularly the youth as well as first time voters," Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted on Sunday morning.
There are 25,794 polling booths in the third phase of the UP Assembly elections, and over 2.16 crore eligible voters, as per data shared by the Election Commission.
"Voters voting in Uttar Pradesh and Punjab today are requested to come out in large numbers to vote. The right to vote is the biggest right in a democracy. You must exercise your rights," Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, whose son was among the candidates in the first phase of the UP Assembly elections, tweeted.
The 59 constituencies going to the polls on 20 February are spread across 16 districts situated in western UP, the Awadh region, and Bundelkhand.
Out of these 16 districts, eight had been strongholds of Mulayam Singh Yadav's family till 2017.
The electorate in Mainpuri, Etawah, Firozabad, Kasganj, Etah, Farrukhabad, Kannauj, and Auraiya still comprises a considerable population of Yadavs, making these regions the Akhilesh Yadav-led SP's forte.

"The third phase of polling has made it clear that Akhilesh Yadav will become CM in 2022, nobody can stop it. The government will be formed with overwhelming majority, with over 300 seats," Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party (Lohiya) chief Shivpal Singh Yadav, whose party is in alliance with the Samajwadi Party, was quoted as saying by news agency ANI on Sunday, as he cast his vote.

The third phase of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections saw an 8.15 percent voter turnout till 9 am, as per the EC.

An FIR has been lodged against Kanpur Mayor Pramila Pandey for breaching of secrecy of voting at the Hudson School polling station, as per the district magistrate.
Pandey had clicked pictures and videos of the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) as she cast her vote during the third phase of the UP assembly polls.
"Vote will be in Uttar Pradesh, change will come across the country! Vote for peace and progress - if a new government is formed, a new future will be formed," Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said in a tweet.
"My sisters and brothers of Uttar Pradesh You have a huge responsibility in these elections. You have to take the state on the path of a new politics. You have to beautify the future of the state. This time choose a government that understands and solves your issues. Do vote," Priyanka Gandhi, the face of the Congress's campaign in Uttar Pradesh, said in a tweet.
"BJP is going to be eliminated. Farmers of UP won't forgive them. We've hit century in first 2 phases and even in this phase SP and alliance would be ahead of everyone else," Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav was quoted as saying by ANI, after casting his vote in Jaswantnagar.
The third phase of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections saw a 21.18 percent voter turnout till 11 am, as per the EC.

"The public is unhappy with BJP and this time the elections are about removing it from Uttar Pradesh. They (BJP) are anxious that the public is angry with them, so their language and behaviour has changed," SP President Akhilesh Yadav was quoted as saying by ANI.
"There is no cycle election symbol on the EVM at Farrukhabad Vidhan Sabha 194 Booth No 38. Election Commission and District Administration please take cognizance," the Samajwadi Party has alleged in a tweet, tagging the EC and the Farrukhabad district magistrate.

"In the third phase of voting in the 59 Vidhan Sabha seats of 16 districts of UP today, everyone must cast their vote with great enthusiasm and save yourself by your vote. Along with this, a pleasant change of power in UP is also necessary to get rid of all kinds of false and constant deceit of the opposition parties," Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati said in a tweet.
"The biggest failure of the BJP government is not being able to provide even a modest employment to live peacefully with its self-respect, but most of the jobs that were there have been snatched away. First of all, the responsibility of livelihood, this is the biggest demand of the time," she said.
"I know this time the people of Hardoi and UP have made preparations to play Holi with colors twice. The first Holi will be celebrated on March 10 with the bumper victory of BJP. But if Holi is to be celebrated with great pomp on March 10, then preparations for it will have to be done in the polling booth now, door-to-door," Prime Minister Narendra Modi said at a rally in Hardoi.
"Those who used to stop our festivals in the politics of appeasement, they will get the answer of the people of UP on 10 March," he added.
"These 'parivarvadis', who are losing the election badly, will now spread poison in the name of caste. But you have to remember only one thing- UP's development, country's development," Modi stated.
"These 'parivarvadis' are ready to give you an electric shock, not electricity. Those whose dark exploits only flourish in the dark, those familyists can never give light to the state," PM Modi said while criticising the poor provision of electricity in UP under the previous governments, taking a jibe at the Opposition.
He added, "I am sad that from 2014-2017 these 'parivarvadis' did not support me. I am an MP from UP, but till 2017 they (then government) didn't let me work for the people of UP. If you bring them again, will they let me work for you? Should such people be re-elected?"

Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav, while addressing a rally in Ayodhya, said, "BJP leaders are now learning abcd, I want to tell them, "agar Kaka chale gaye toh Baba bhi chale jaenge" (if black farm laws were taken back, Yogi Ji will also go back)... He changed names of everything, now he has been named Baba bulldozer."
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing a rally in Uttar Pradesh's Unnao, launched another attack on Samajwadi Party and said, "They have made such an image of UP that nothing can change here. Yogi government has shown improvement in law and order. UP will bring back Yogi Ji who brought security, development and growth in the state."
He added, "The seat that they (SP) were considering as the safest, is also getting out of their hands. You must have seen, the father (Mulayam S Yadav) who was pushed from the stage, was humiliated and his party was captured, had to plead to save his son's seat."
Modi further said, "Even after getting defeated in the first two phases, whenever these people (Samajwadi Party leaders) sleep, they watch dreams of coming into power."

While addressing a rally in Raebareli, Priyanka Gandhi said, "The whole police force was there to stop us from meeting the family of the Dalit woman who was raped in Hathras. Where were they when she was getting raped? The family told us that they didn't get any help, and were instead getting patrolled."
She added, "Congress' 19,000 workers went to jail in last 1.5 years, for you (public). Congress will waive off farmers' loans as in Chhattisgarh, half electricity bills, empower women; we gave tickets to 40 percent women, doesn't matter if they win/lose, at least they're fighting," ANI reported.
"Around 2.06 crore voters turned up to cast their votes till 5 pm for the third phase of UP Assembly elections. Wherever we got complaints, EVMs and VVPATs were replaced immediately. There was no incident of violence," UP's Chief Electoral Officer Ajay Kumar Shukla said.
The Election Commission (EC) on Sunday took suo motu cognisance of a complaint against Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav for allegedly breaching the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) in Uttar Pradesh's Etawah.
The complaint has been filed in Saifai, where Yadav has been accused of allegedly sharing his opinions with media personnel in the premises of his respective voting centre, India Today reported.
With a 57.58 percent voter turnout till 5 pm, polling for the third phase of the Uttar Pradesh elections concluded at 6 pm on Sunday, 20 February. This phase of polls covered 16 districts and 59 constituencies spread across Bundelkhand, Awadh, and western UP.
While the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had swept Bundelkhand in 2017, the Samajwadi Party (SP) considers at least eight districts in this region – Mainpuri, Etawah, Firozabad, Kasganj, Etah, Farrukhabad, Kannauj, and Auraiya – as its strongholds.
