Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav announces Samajwadi Party’s (SP) election manifesto in Lucknow for the upcoming assembly polls, while Mulayam Singh and Shivpal Yadav gave the event a miss.
Akhilesh said the way registrations have been done, “if voting gets done in the same way, SP will get 300 seats.”
Leaving no stone unturned to storm back to power in Uttar Pradesh, the election manifesto touches almost every sector of rural life.
Women have been given 50 percent off in roadways buses. The party has promised free medical services to people earning less than Rs 1.5 lakh per year.
The 32-page manifesto carried the photographs of Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, his father and SP patron Mulayam Singh Yadav, but no snap of Shivpal Yadav.
Establishment of farmers' fund and 24-hour supply power in rural areas are among the many promises the party has made.
Akhilesh announced that the state’s metro train network will be expanded to Agra, Kanpur, Varanasi and Meerut.
Appealing to the people to give Samajwadi Party one more chance, Akhilesh Yadav says “we will carry minorities, muslims along with us.”
He adds that “secular politics and development politics are my priorities.”
In his speech, Akhilesh Yadav launches an attack on the Modi government saying it’s been three years since they promised ‘achhe din’, but they have nothing to talk about development.
He calls Mayawati’s Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) ‘patthar wali sarkar’ and says they have done nothing but erect stone statues of elephants, its poll symbol.

The Samajwadi Party is set to release its election manifesto in Lucknow in the presence of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav.
However, party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav is unlikely to attend the manifesto release event, say reports. Instead, he is meeting some leaders at his residence.
Sources say Azam Khan has reached Mulayam’s residence to bring him along to the event, reports ANI.
After hitting several roadblocks, an alliance between the Samajwadi Party and the Congress has finally been sealed, news agencies reported. The Congress will be allotted 105 seats in the upcoming elections.
On Saturday, two days after a pre-poll alliance was announced, there were reports that the tie-up has failed over the issue of seat-sharing. The SP had offered 99 seats to the Congress while the latter demanded at least 115 seats, said sources.
However, Congress President Sonia Gandhi reportedly stepped in to resolve the deadlock, said media reports, while state Congress chief Raj Babbar said there were no interruptions in talks.
