The Election Commission, late on Saturday, rubbished Mayawati’s allegations that the voting in Uttar Pradesh was rigged. Responding to the allegations, it said:

No merit in allegations of electronic voting machines tampering in UP polls.

Earlier, expressing shock over the fact that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) got votes from areas that she called ‘Muslim mohallas’, Bhaujan Samajwadi Party (BSP) supremo and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati alleged that the electronic voting machines were rigged.

It’s a shocking result. BJP has won in Muslim areas. It seems like you press any button, and the vote goes to BJP. BJP members are celebrating, but they have tampered with democracy.

Mayawati demanded an inspection of the EVMs by the Election Commission before the results for polls in UP and Uttarakhand are officially declared.

I give an open challenge to BJP and Amit Shah... if they are honest, let’s vote again through the old paper ballot system. These EVMs have been rigged. We demand that the results in both Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand be stalled until the EVM machines are inspected by the Election Commission.
