Samajwadi Party released the third list of candidates who will be contesting in the upcoming state assembly elections. Akhilesh Yadav to contest from Mubarakpur and Aparna Yadav to contest from Lucknow Cantt for the party.
SP and Congress have formed an alliance for the upcoming UP State Assembly Elections. The Congress party is contesting from 105 seats while the SP has reserved 298 seats for themselves. After playing a tug of war over seat shares, the SP and the Congress are finally down to strategising for the coming elections. Rahul and Akhilesh are preparing several rallies together.
According to sources, they will be rallying together in every phase, and are planning a total of 14 rallies throughout the state.
Akhilesh Yadav will be campaigning with fresh gust one from 24 January. He will campaign on behalf of the SP on Tuesday from the Sultanpur area of UP. The alliance was confirmed formally on Sunday, and they will be announcing the candidates who are contesting from each of these 403 seats. Smaller parties were made a part of this alliance.
Amid reports of senior Samajwadi Party leader Naresh Agrawal joining the BJP today, Agrawal clarified saying he was going nowhere.
The Samajwadi Party has released a list of 77 candidates, including three sitting MLAs in Rae Bareli and two in Amethi. To accommodate the alliance with the Congress, the party has denied tickets to five of its sitting MLAs in different districts.
Mukhtar Ansari, whose Quami Ekta Dal merged with SP last year despite Akhilesh’s reservations, has been denied a ticket as well.
Rajya Sabha MP Amar Singh alleged that an open death threat has been issued to him by a “supporter” of Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and said he feared that he “may be killed” in Uttar Pradesh.
Referring to 'Z-category' security cover accorded to him by the Central government, he said, "Ram Gopal Yadav even knows the reason why I received the security."

In what could be seen as an announcement of Priyanka Gandhi's arrival, several senior Congress leaders on Sunday acknowledged the role of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra in striking an alliance with the Samajwadi Party (SP) in Uttar Pradesh.
A senior Congress leader told IANS that Priyanka Gandhi played a key role in sealing the deal with the SP.
Senior Congress functionaries Ahmed Patel and Ghulam Nabi Azad, who is also the in-charge of Uttar Pradesh, separately acknowledged Priyanka's role in giving the final shape to the alliance with the SP, which at one point had hit a roadblock.

On Saturday, two days after a pre-poll alliance was announced, there were reports that the tie-up has failed over the issue of seat-sharing. The SP had offered 99 seats to the Congress while the latter demanded at least 115 seats, said sources.
However, Congress President Sonia Gandhi reportedly stepped in to resolve the deadlock, said media reports, while state Congress chief Raj Babbar said there were no interruptions in talks.
