AIMIM's decision to go solo in Bihar polls in 2016 had backfired. And even with Uttar Pradesh elections, party head Asaduddin Owaisi has reportedly ruled out alliances with the SP, the Congress, the BJP and the JD(U). However, Owaisi hasn’t yet ruled out AIMIM-BSP alliance.
In an interview with Barkha Dutt for The Quint, Owaisi compared BSP supremo Mayawati to US President Barack Obama, lauding her for becoming a chief minister despite her humble beginnings. BSP took notice of The Quint’s interview – and endorsed Owaisi’s statements by tweeting that particular snippet from the party’s official Twitter handle.
Owaisi, in his interview, called Mayawati’s rise to chief ministership “a great achievement”.
AIMIM is contesting 38 out of 403 Assembly seats in UP elections.
Owaisi’s statements re-open speculations on whether an alliance between the parties is materialising.
