In his highly anticipated address to the nation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the scientists of Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) on having successfully tested the Anti-Satellite (ASAT) missile. He referred to the mission as ‘Mission Shakti’.

India has now become the fourth nation to test an anti-satellite missile, the others being – the US, China and Russia.

While the prior notice about the announcement got the internet abuzz, it did not go according to how some had expected it to be.

Former Jammu and Kashmir CM, Omar Abdullah, took a jibe on the prime minister’s announcement on Twitter.

The Twitterverse also said that the PM has not addressed other pertinent issues and “taken away a precious half-an-hour of our lives.”

Twitterati congratulated the scientists for their achievement and “securing India’s place as a space superpower.”

‘PM’s Air Quotes Were the Highlight of the Speech’

While addressing the nation, PM Modi used air quotes to say ‘Mission Shakti’. Social media users were left wondering, “Why did PM Modi use air quotes?”

A Twitter user called it a “watershed moment”, while another called the use of air quotes by the PM, “the highlight of the speech.”
