Days after BJP general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya’s son Akash was arrested for assaulting a public official with a cricket bat in Indore, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that arrogance and misbehaviour will not be tolerated irrespective of “whoever it may be, whoever’s son he may be”.

But now, according to a report by The Indian Express, BJP state disciplinary committee convener Babusingh Raghuvanshi has said he is not sure if Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s condemnation of the action was directed at the Akash.

There is also confusion about whether the 33-year-old has apologised, or whether it has been accepted or forwarded to the central unit. BJP’s stand on the entire issue seems shaky, and Twitterati had a lot to say about it.

Many who had appreciated Modi and the BJP government for condemning the incident said they were disappointed.

Who Is Calling The Shots?

One Twitter user brought up the time Pragya Thakur insulted Swachh Bharat, saying both instances – Akash and Pragya – prove that “Modi has been reduced to a mere Mitti ka Madho (dimwit) in the party.”

Another Twitter user commented, “Amit Shah is calling the shots in the BJP.”

There were also suggestions that even Modi’s own party is disobeying him.

New Jumlas

“Is this what the BJP under JP Nadda is going to be like?” asked journalist Rohan Venkat.

Congress supporter Shama Mohamed said, “Modiji's rebuke may not have been aimed at them (Pragya and Akash), but his Jumlas were definitely aimed at the people of India.”

Clarify The Stand

Writer Sanjukta Basu that the BJP panel is ‘lying shamelessly’.

National Convenor of the Congress Ruchira Chaturvedi asked PM Modi to clarify if he has indeed admonished Akash Vijayvargiya.
