Union minister and BJP leader Rajnath Singh filed his nomination for the Lok Sabha elections from Uttar Pradesh’s Lucknow Parliamentary seat on Tuesday, 16 April

Singh held a roadshow from the BJP office to the collectorate in Lucknow.

The Opposition has not yet filed a nomination from the same seat.

Historically, the BJP has had a strong foothold in Lucknow and has held the seat since 1991. Most famous perhaps is former BJP leader and Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who was an MP from Lucknow till 2009.

Rajnath, in a tweet, described garnering the people’s support as ‘realising the Lucknow dream of Vajpayee ji’.

Earlier in 2014, Rajnath Singh won the Lucknow seat by approximately 3 lakh votes. Prior to that, he was contesting from Ghaziabad.

Lucknow goes to polls in the fifth phase and voting will be held here on 6 May.
