In an interview to The Quint, Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Friday, 17 May, said that although the Congress might look disordered, its foundation is “strong”.

Speaking to Raghav Bahl, Founder and Editor-in-Chief of The Quint, and Sanjay Pugalia, Editorial Director of The Quint, Gandhi was responding to why the Congress was not addressing problems that weigh it down.

“Having been a Congress beat reporter in the past, I have noticed that one of the biggest challenges that it faces is that close to 80 percent of its time is spent on HR management, mismanagement, inter-personal relationships. This weighs the leader down in the process of planning the ‘big picture’. I have not seen this problem being addressed,” Pugalia asked.

Gandhi was of the opinion that leaders of his party were skilled at picking on the most important parts of discussions. He said,

“The Congress party is a conversation. There will definitely be disturbance in this. The skill of a Congress party leader is to pick the most crucial thread of ongoing discussions. The leader can filter it and pick it.”

He also compared the “discussion” in the party to the “voice of the nation”.

To explain his stand on the order of things, he visited mythology and spoke of Lord Shiva’s baraat.

“I’ll give you an example of Lord Shiva’s baraat. It has an order, which also includes disorder. Someone looking at it would say that it is extremely disorderly. But on looking closely, one can also witness the order.”
