AAP's South Delhi Lok Sabha candidate Raghav Chadha has filed a writ petition on Saturday, 27 April, seeking disqualification of his challenger and BJP’s candidate from South Delhi Ramesh Bidhuri from the poll fight in Delhi. Chadha, in his writ petition, has challenged the decision of the Returning Officer for accepting nomination papers of Bidhuri despite concealment of important facts.
Seeking cancellation of Bidhuri’s candidature, Chadha said, “Only a matter of 30 days I'd say till high court cancels his candidature. Urge the people of South Delhi Lok Sabha to not waste their vote on a candidate who will be disqualified anyways. He has lied to the people, to EC, but will soon answer to the law.”
Earlier in the day, the Delhi Police registered a case against cricketer-turned-politician Gautam Gambhir for holding an election rally without taking permission following the directives of EC, a police officer confirmed.
East Delhi Electoral Officer K Mahesh on Saturday asked the police to take action against Gambhir for rallying in Jungpura on Friday without permission and violating the model code of conduct.
"We have registered Delhi Police (DP) Act against Gautam Gambhir and are taking action against him under Non Cognizable Report," Deputy Commissioner of Police Chinmoy Biswal said.
Gambhir is the Bharatiya Janata Party candidate from the East Delhi Constituency.
