Bhagwant Mann – the comedian-turned-politician who courted controversy last year for live-streaming on the premises of Parliament – could be Arvind Kejriwal’s choice for the chief ministerial candidate in Punjab. So far, Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) doesn’t have a chief ministerial face in the state where elections will be held on 4 February.

“There is amazing craze for Mann among voters,” a senior AAP leader in Delhi told NDTV. However, the politician added that the party had not decided on a CM face yet.

But what does Mann want? The 44-year-old Sangrur MP said:

I never said I will be chief minister but the public is there. They are saying... what they want. Our leadership has said they will decide later. Let us wait.

AAP reportedly wants a “turban-wearing Sikh” to lead the party in the state. Besides checking that box, Mann is contesting against Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal of the Akali Dal in the Jalalabad Assembly seat. This shows Kejriwal’s faith in him.

However, what does play against Mann is last year’s controversy that saw him getting suspended from Parliament for a day.
