Voting for all the 40 constituencies in Mizoram concluded on 28 November with 80 percent voter turnout. The state is the last bastion of the Congress in the Northeast, where the party is eyeing a third consecutive term.

Exit Polls Show Similar Results

The various exit polls seem to show similar results- with MNF taking the lead in the 40-seat state assembly elections, and the Congress coming in second.

MNF Likely to Gain Comfortable Lead: India Today- Axis My India

The India Today-Axis My India survey predicted that the MNF will gain a comfortable lead in this year’s state Assembly elections, with 16-22 seats. It said the Congress will win only between 8 and 12 seats.

It also predicted the vote-shares that each party would receive: 34% for MNF and 29% for Congress.

MNF Will Win 18 Seats, Cong 16: Times Now-CNX Survey

In line with both CVoter and NETA surveys, the Times Now-CNX survey has predicted that the MNF will take a lead by winning 18 seats, while the Congress will bag 16. The remaining 6 will be for Others.

NewsX-NETA Gives Lead to MNF Over Cong

The NewsX-NETA survey has predicted that MNF will take a lead in Mizoram by bagging 19 seats, while Congress will win 15 and 6 seats will remain for Others.

MNF in Lead, Congress Second: Republic-CVoter Exit Poll

Republic-CVoter exit poll gave a slight edge to the Mizo National Front (MNF) with 16-20 seats. Congress is trailing with 14-18 seats. The majority mark is 21 seats.

The poll has also predicted that regional party Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) will bag between 3 and 7 seats.

The vote-share, according to the poll, stands at: 32.3% for the Congress, 31.9% for the MNF, 23.4% for the ZPM and 12.5% for Others.

The Congress’ main rivals, the Mizo National Front and the Bharatiya Janata Party, are looking to make serious inroads into the 40-member Assembly.

The Congress and the main Opposition, MNF, have fielded 40 candidates each, while the BJP is contesting from 39 seats. The Zoram Peoples Movement (ZPM), an alliance formed by two political parties and four groups, is contesting from 35 seats.

In 2013 Assembly elections, the Congress won 34 seats, while the Mizo National Front (MNF) had five and Mizoram People’s Conference bagged one seat.
