The BJP-Shiv Sena alliance swept 40 seats of the 48 seats in Maharashtra , while the Congress-NCP won only five seats in the state. Of the six seats in Mumbai, the saffron party and its alliance party Shiv Sena swept all the seats.

Exits Polls: UPA Unlikely to Cause Dent on NDA in Maharashtra

Several exit polls on Sunday, 19 May, forecast a favourable result for the ruling BJP in Maharashtra with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) bagging 35-40 parliamentary seats in the state.

Times Now-VMR poll tracker predicted that the NDA will secure 38 out of the 48 parliamentary seats, while the India Today My Axis exit poll suggested 40 seats for the alliance.

NDTV's Poll of Polls predicted 36 seats for the NDA and 11 seats for the Congress-led UPA.

Overall most exit poll surveys suggested a resurgence of BJP-led NDA at the Centre with Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking a second term.

Key Candidates to Look For

Among the key candidates who contested during the four phases of polling include Union ministers Nitin Gadkari (Nagpur), Maharashtra Congress chief Ashok Chavan (Nanded), Milind Deora (Mumbai South), Parth Pawar (Maval), Prakash Ambedkar (Solapur & Akola), Priya Dutt (Mumbai North Central) and Urmila Matondkar (Mumbai North).

What was the 2014 Verdict in Maharashtra?

In 2014, BJP and its ally Shiv Sena together won Lok Sabha 41 seats while the Congress managed to win only two seats.

Congress’ ally Nationalist Congress Party led by Sharad Pawar won four parliamentary seats in 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

Counting of Votes Begins in Maharashtra

The counting of votes for the 48 Lok Sabha seats in Maharashtra is underway. The counting of postal ballot votes is taking place first, across all centres in the state.

The early trends are likely to start coming in by Thursday afternoon while the final results are expected in the evening.

BJP Leads in 2 Seats in Maharashtra

Soon after the commencement of counting of votes on Thursday, BJP is leading in two seats in Maharashtra.

The counting began at 8 am.

The Congress-led alliance in Maharashtra is slowly catching up with the BJP-led NDA. Congress is leading in two seats out of the 48 seats in Maharashtra.

Three hours into vote counting, and the latest trends project the BJP-led NDA leading comfortably in 42 seats. The Congress-led alliance leads in five seats, while the 'Other' parties are leading in one.

Nitin Gadkari Ahead By Big Margin at 10.55 am

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari is leading in Nagpur seat by more than 13,000 votes. Gadkari is contesting against Congress’ Nana Patole.

Meanwhile, BJP’s Poonam Mahajan is ahead of Congress’ Priya Dutt by more than 1.86 lakh votes in Mumbai North Central seat.

Urmila Matondkar Trailing by 74,000 Votes

Congress’ Mumbai North candidate, Urmila Matondkar is trailing behind BJP’s Gopal Shetty by 74,883 votes.

BJP-Sena Now Lead in 44 Seats in Maharashtra, Cong Fails to Make a Dent

As per the latest trends, BJP and ally Shiv Sena are enjoying a comfortable lead in 44 seats.

Congress has failed to take the lead in any of the 25 seats it is contesting. The NCP is leading in 3 seats and 'Other' political parties are leading in 1.

Maharashtra Latest Trends: VBA Leader Prakash Ambedkar Fails to Make an Impact

Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) founder and Akola Lok Sabha candidate, Prakash Ambedkar – BR Ambedkar's grandson – is trailing behind sitting MP Sanjay Shamrao Dhotre by 77,476 votes.

Ambedkar, who is also contesting for Solapur parliamentary seat, has failed to make an impact. In Solapur, BJP’s Jai Sidheshwar Shivacharya Mahaswamiji is leading by 47768 votes.

Latest Trends: BJP Leads in 24 Seats, Sena in 19

  • BJP+: 43
  • Cong+: 4
  • Others: 1

Out of the 25 seats BJP is contesting, as per trends at noon, it is leading in 24. Meanwhile, BJP’s ally Shiv Sena is leading in 19 seats.

Congress is yet to take a lead in any of the 26 seats it contested, while its ally NCP is ahead in four seats.

Arvind Sawant Leads in Mumbai South, Gajanan in Mumbai North West

BJP's Mumbai South candidate Arvind Sawant is leading against Congress' Milind Deora by 47,259 votes. Sawant had won the Mumbai South seat in 2014 by a margin of 1,28,564 votes.

Meanwhile, Sena's Mumbai North West candidate, Gajanan Kirtikar is leading against Congress' Sanjay Nirupam by 53,323 votes. In 2014, Kirtikar had won the seat by a margin of 1,83,028 votes.

Maharashtra Trends at 12.30 PM

Parth Pawar Trailing in Maval, Supriya Sule Leading in Baramati

Shiv Sena's Maval candidate Shrirang Barne has taken a massive lead against NCP's Parth Pawar by 1,66,126 votes.

Meanwhile, sitting MP from Baramati and NCP leader, Supriya Sule is leading by 1,09,175 votes. She is contesting against BJP’s Kanchan Rahul Kool.

Congress Leading in 1 Seat, NCP in 4

Congress at 1 pm finally managed to take the lead in one parliamentary seat, while its ally NCP is leading in four.

Overall, the UPA has failed to make a dent against the BJP-led NDA, which is leading in 41 seats.

Congress leader Suresh Narayan Dhanorkar is leading in Chandrapur by 6,776 votes.

Maharashtra Trends at 1.30 PM: BJP+ Enjoy Lead in 41 Seats

Riding on a massive Modi wave, the BJP is likely to return to power as the early trends suggested. Congratulating PM Modi and BJP, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said "this India's victory."

"BJP has made history under the successful leadership of Amit Shah," he added. Meanwhile, Gadkari in leading in the Nagpur seat by 58,842 votes.

BJP and its ally Shiv Sena are leading in all the six parliamentary seats in Mumbai.

The latest trends are as follows:

  • Gopal Shetty (BJP) leading in Mumbai North
  • Poonam Mahajan (BJP) leading in Mumbai North central
  • Manoj Kotak in (BJP) leading in Mumbai North East

AIMM's Aurangabad candidate, Imtiaz Jaleel Syed is leading against Shiv Sena's Chandrakant Khaire by 32,682 votes.
