Asaduddin Owaisi, the leader of AIMIM (All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen) has joined issue with Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his comment that the minorities have been "deceived" and "made to live in fear". Mr Owaisi, who has the support of a huge number of Muslims in Telangana, pointed to the violence carried out by right-wing fringe groups over the last five years, and said the Muslims, even today, has very little representation in parliament.
Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi arrived in Varanasi.
He will offer prayers at the Kashi Vishwanath temple today and hold a meeting with party workers later in the day.

BJP leader Kiren Rijiju on Monday said the party MLAs of Arunachal Pradesh unanimously selected Pema Khandu as the leader of the BJP legislature party. Khandu would be sworn-in as Arunachal Pradesh CM on 29 May, he added.
Taking responsibility for the party's debacle in the recently held Lok Sabha elections, Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Ajoy Kumar resigned from his post on Monday.
He handed over his resignation letter to the party's state unit in-charge RPN Singh.
"I have handed over my resignation letter to RPN Singh, party's state unit in-charge, taking personal responsibility for the election results," Kumar told PTI over phone.
It is not immediately known whether his resignation letter was accepted.
The Congress, which led the 'Mahagathbandhan' (grand alliance) in the state, contested the Lok Sabha polls from seven out of 14 seats.
But the party could win only one seat – Singhbhum (ST) – where former chief minister Madhu Koda's wife, Gita Koda, defeated BJP's state unit president Laxman Gilua.

The simmering discontent in RJD has come to the fore following its rout in Lok Sabha election with senior party legislator Maheshwar Prasad Yadav on Monday asking Tejashwi Yadav to resign from the post of Leader of Opposition taking moral responsibility for the drubbing.
Alleging that parivarwad (family politics) has cost the party most, Yadav, the RJD MLA from Gaighat assembly constituency in Muzaffarpur district, claimed the party will break if his demand is not fulfilled.

Odisha Chief Minister and BJD president Naveen Patnaik has invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi and leaders of different political parties to his swearing-in ceremony scheduled to be held in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday, party sources said on Monday.
Patnaik will take oath as the chief minister for fifth time in a row at 10.30 am on Wednesday.
"A special message has been sent to Delhi to invite the Prime Minister for the swearing-in ceremony of the new government in Odisha," sources in the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) said.
