The Election Commission is learnt to have written to President Ram Nath Kovind on Tuesday pointing to the violation of model code of conduct by Rajasthan Governor Kalyan Singh for making political comments, reported news agency PTI.
The poll panel had on Monday concluded that Singh's remarks supporting the return of Narendra Modi as prime minister violate the model code and is learnt to have written to President Kovind flagging the issue.
Sources in the know said, since Singh holds a constitutional post, the Election Commission wrote to President.
Reasons why the Election Commission felt that his remarks were against the spirit of the poll code have been given, they said.
The Central Election Commission (CEC) of the Congress has cleared the nominees for six out of 13 Lok Sabha seats in Punjab.
All four sitting MPs have been renominated from their constituencies. Punjab Congress chief Sunil Jakhar has been fielded from Gurdaspur, Ravneet Bittu from Ludhiana, Santokh Chaudhary from Jalandhar, Gurjit Aujla from Amritsar.
Amarinder’s wife Preneet Kaur has been retained from Patiala and Chabbewal MLA Raj Kumar Chabbewal will be party nominee from the reserved seat of Hoshiarpur.
In a twitter war, Aam Aadmi Party MLA and spokesperson Saurabh Bhardwaj dared fellow party MLA Alka Lamba to join the Congress, reported news agency IANS.
The Twitter war between the two started when Chandni Chowk MLA Lamba reacted to the manifesto of Congress released on Tuesday.
She said, every party has its manifesto and the Congress in its manifesto promised full statehood for Puducherry but nothing on Delhi.
“This is clear that statehood for Delhi is not an issue for the Congress. On the other hand, the AAP making it the main issue. How will the alliance take place?” she asked.
The Election Commission of India has sought a response from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on the 24-hour channel ‘NaMo TV,’ based on a complaint filed by the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party, reported ANI.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing a public rally at Arunachal Pradesh’s Pasighat slammed the Congress’ manifesto. “Just like them, their manifesto is corrupt and full of lies. Therefore, it should be called hypocrisy document, not a manifesto,” he said.
“In their 2004 manifesto, Congress stated that every house would have electricity by 2009. However, till 2014 around 18,000 houses were not electrified,” he added.
Further he said, BJP never betrayed the farmers, instead introduced mechanism from seed to market. “We implemented PM KISAN scheme,” he added.
The Supreme Court has disposed off petition of two Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) leaders Roshan Giri and Bimal Gurung, seeking a direction to grant them interim protection for three weeks to allow them to participate in the general elections, reported ANI.
The top court asked the GJM leaders to approach the Calcutta High Court for interim relief within four days. The SC has also asked Calcutta HC to expeditiously dispose off the matter and said that ‘no coercive action should be taken till the matter is heard by the Calcutta HC.’
‘Saamana’ editor and Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut said, “Our stand is clear, those who have sedition charges against them should be stopped from going to the parliament at any cost. Hasn't Hardik Patel been stopped?” reported ANI.
The Mumbai district election officer had issued Raut a notice for violation of the model code of conduct over his comments against Communist Party of India's candidate Kanhaiya Kumar.
Raut, in his column in the Sena mouthpiece, had said that Kanhaiya Kumar should be defeated in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, even if it means that the BJP has to tamper with the EVMs.

Congress Leader Ghulam Nabi Azad, on Wednesday 3 April, blamed PM Modi for taking the situation in Jammu and Kashmir back to the early 1990’s.

The Congress Party on Wednesday, 3 April released a list of four candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections from West Bengal.
Taking a dig at Congress’ manifesto which promised to amend the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said, “Is this right? It is an effort to weaken the armed forces. They are trying to dilute the immunity of our security forces,” reported ANI.
Hitting out at the Prime Minister Modi over the alleged ‘Cash for Vote Scandal,’ in Arunachal Pradesh, Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said authorities found Rs.1.8 crore from the convoy of BJP CM Pema Khandu & BJP Arunachal Pradesh President Tapir Gao.
Meanwhile, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has denied Congress’ allegations. “Cash for Vote is rather practiced by Congress party. Investigation under Election Commission will reveal all the details,” he said.
Addressing a rally in West Bengal’s Siliguri, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a dig at West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and called her a “speed breaker,” who is stalling development in the state.
Hitting out at the Congress for their manifesto which proposes amendment to AFSPA, Modi said the Congress wants to snatch the “protective shield” from the Army.
Former Union home minister and senior Congress leader Sushilkumar Shinde, who is locked in a keen contest on his home turf Solapur in Maharashtra, today announced that the upcoming contest would be his final election and sought "blessings" of NCP chief Sharad Pawar.
Addressing workers of the Congress and the NCP in Solapur in western Maharashtra, Shinde said, " This is my last election. I want the blessings of Pawar saheb. He has always extended his cooperation to me".

PDP President Mehbooba Mufti said today that the relation of Jammu and Kashmir with India will end if the terms and conditions of the state's accession to the Union were changed.
"2020 will also be a deadline from Jammu and Kashmir to the nation. If you remove those terms and conditions on which Jammu and Kashmir acceded to India, our relation with the country will also end," Mehbooba told reporters after filing her nomination papers from the Anantnag Lok Sabha constituency.

Former MLA Navjot Kaur Sidhu did not hide her disappointment over the Congress’ decision not to field her from the Chandigarh Lok Sabha constituency, where she had already started holding public meetings in anticipation of a party nomination.

Addressing a rally in the Upper Assam town of Bokakhat, Gandhi said the Congress, if voted to power, guarantees to deposit Rs 72,000 annually to 20 per cent poor Indian families under the NYAY scheme.
"Modi had promised to deposit money in the accounts of people, but he has done it only in the case of some rich businessmen like the Ambanis.
"The money (for NYAY scheme) will come from the pockets of 'chor' (thieves) like Anil Ambani, to whom Chowkidar Narendra Modi has given money during the last four years... We will deposit it in the accounts of the poor, particularly women, irrespective of their caste, class or religion," he said.

The Election Commission is learnt to have sought details of Namo TV from the Information and Broadcasting Ministry after the issue was flagged by the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party which wanted to know whether political parties having their own channels was violative of the model code of conduct.
The Commission, among other issues, is learnt to have asked about details of the launch of the channel.
The channel, also called 'Content TV', carries the picture of Prime Minister Narendra Modi as its logo. It was launched ahead of Lok Sabha polls beginning 11 April. It is available on various DTH and cable TV platforms.

Congress President Rahul Gandhi, who is contesting from Wayanad Lok Sabha seat in Kerala in addition to his traditional stronghold of Amethi in Uttar Pradesh, will file his nomination by 11 am on Thursday, senior party leader Ramesh Chennithala said.
Gandhi might be accompanied by his sister and AICC in-charge of eastern Uttar Pradesh, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Congress sources told PTI.
They said the Congress chief will board a helicopter to Wayanad, about 90 km from here, to file his nomination.

The Congress has fielded its MLA CJ Chavda against BJP President Amit Shah from Gandhinagar Lok Sabha seat in Gujarat.
The Opposition party released a list of names on late Tuesday night in which it mentioned four more candidates from the state, including Chavda.
With this, the Congress has so far declared 18 candidates in Gujarat, where the last date of filing of nomination papers is 4 April.

Amidst allegations of jailed RJD president Lalu Prasad talking to his political associates over phone in violation of jail manual, authorities inspected his ward on Tuesday, but said they did not find anything objectionable.
The search was carried out by a joint team of the Birsa Munda prison officials and the Ranchi District Police, a senior police official said Wednesday.
Prasad has been sentenced in four fodder scam cases by different special CBI courts in Ranchi and is in prison from December 2017. However, the convicted RJD leader is admitted in the paying ward of the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) for various ailments.

Not impressed by Rahul Gandhi's decision to contest the Lok Sabha polls from Wayanad in Kerala, Left parties today asserted that they will teach him how to "fight elections on the ground", even as the Congress said nothing will affect its chief's prospects in the state.
“We are fighting these polls to win”, a senior CPI leader said, on the eve of Gandhi filing his nomination to fight the elections from the hill constituency.
The Left Democratic Front (LDF) - a coalition of Left -wing parties in Kerala - has fielded CPI's PP Suneer from the Wayanad parliamentary constituency, which has seven Assembly segments, three each in Wayanad and Malappuram districts and one in Kozhikode district.

Dismissing the BJP allegation that the Congress manifesto for Lok Sabha polls was soft on terror, AICC in-charge of Congress affairs in Telangana R C Khuntia today said the ruling party should explain its record in handling security issues during the last five years.
"What are they doing? They should also explain....why terrorism is continuing? Why more forces are being killed? They should give the answer about five years," he told reporters here.
The BJP should first explain why there were allegedly more incidents, instead of asking another political party about its manifesto, he said.

Punjab AAP chief and Sangrur MP Bhagwant Mann has sought financial support from people for campaigning ahead of the general election.
Mann, who is seeking re-election from the constituency, uploaded a video on his Facebook page asking for financial aid to encourage people with "clean image" in politics.
"For campaigning (in Lok Sabha polls), money is needed and I am requesting you to give 'Dasvandh' (one-tenth of income) so we can encourage people with clean image. If people with clean image get defeated in politics because of shortage of funds, they will be hurt and in future, such people will not come forward," the comedian-turned-politician said.
Mann asserted that the funds received would be accounted for.
"You may send money in any denomination - Rs 1, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 500. The funds, we receive, will be accounted for. When I get the required amount of funds, I will tell you that I now do not require more funds," he said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today made a scathing attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee describing her as a "speedbreaker" in the path of development of the state and insisted she has to go to ensure speedy development of Bengal like rest of the country.
Modi also took on the Congress over its manifesto that talks about reviewing some clauses of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), saying it acts like a "shield" for the security forces in the fight against terrorists and make the soldiers vulnerable.

A day after the Congress alleged that the accommodation and security cover of its leaders in Jammu and Kashmir were withdrawn, the state Chief Electoral Officer said he has informed the Election Commission about the issue and will also write to the state administration.
"We are writing to (the state) government to take their view on this (withdrawal of security and accommodation to Congress leaders and its chief in Jammu and Kashmir)," Shailendra Kumar, the CEO said.
Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee chief Gulam Ahmed Mir had accused the state administration of withdrawing the security cover of several party leaders to "hamper" their poll campaign, especially in the militancy-hit south Kashmir.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has dropped lawmaker Kirit Somaiya as the party’s candidate.
The announcement was made by the BJP's Central Election Committee.
The Congress today alleged that a "cash for votes" scam was busted in Arunachal Pradesh with the recovery of Rs 1.8 crore in cash from Chief Minister Pema Khandu's convoy and asked the poll panel to register a case against Prime Minister Narendra Modi as well as the chief minister and his deputy.
Accusing the BJP of using "money power" to woo voters in the northeast, Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said Rs 1.8 crore was allegedly recovered from the chief minister's convoy in Pasighat around midnight, hours before Modi was to address a rally there on Wednesday morning.

Party chief Amit Shah said that the BJP won't allow anybody to snatch Jammu and Kashmir from India at his public rally in Udhampur.
“Nobody can dilute AFSPA, BJP government will be standing like rock in support of security forces,” BJP President Amit Shah said.
“If you choose Narendra Modi govt, in next five years we'll oust every single infiltrator from the country. Infiltrators are eating our country like termites. They want to change demography of Jammu. As long as there's BJP government, we won't let this happen,” he said.

As many as 112 FIRs and daily diary (DD) entries have been registered till date against various political parties and others for violation of the model code of conduct in the run up to the Lok Sabha polls, the poll body in Delhi said today.
The statistics surveillance team of Delhi's chief electoral office constituted to keep an eye on the expenses of political parties, has seized Rs 1.21 crore in cash.
"A total of 112 FIRs or DD entries have been lodged till date in connection with the violation of the model code of conduct.
"Out of these, 13 are against the Aam Aadmi Party (six FIRs and four DD entries), 11 against the Bharatiya Janata Party (eight FIRs and three DD entries), three against the Congress (all DD entries), one against the Bahujan Samaj Party (one DD entry) and Samajwadi Party (one DD entry), and 83 against others or non-political (entities)," the CEO office said in a statement.

Congress President Rahul Gandhi today kept up his attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying that while people were made to stand in queues for their own money during demonetisation, business tycoons who looted the country fled with the help of the "chowkidar".
"Mehul Choksi, Nirav Modi, Anil Ambani were not in line (outside banks). While you were busy standing in queues, India's thieves looted the money and fled with the help of the chowkidar (Modi)," he said at an election rally in Lakhimpur.
"Have you seen a chowkidar in front of houses of farmers and workers? But there are scores of chowkidars at the houses of Anil Ambani and Gautam Adani," he said, hitting out at the BJP's "Main bhi chowkidar" campaign ahead of the Lok Sabha polls.

Union minister and senior BJP leader Maneka Gandhi today described BSP chief Mayawati as a "merchant of tickets" and alleged that she does not give her party tickets to anyone without taking money.
Maneka Gandhi, who is contesting from Sultanpur parliamentary constituency, also accused the former Uttar Pradesh chief minister of not being loyal to anyone.
"Mayawati does not spare her own partymen, then how will she spare the country and the state. She can't do without (currency) notes. She does not give her party's tickets to anyone without taking money. Mayawati is a saudagar (merchant) of tickets," she said addressing a meeting.

Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy today accused the Centre of creating scarcity of helicopters in the state to prevent the coalition of Congress and the JD(S) from reaching out to people.
"The BJP government at the centre has created a scarcity of helicopters so that we cannot reach more people in the state. They have issued directions in this regard.
Such low level politics is being played out in the state," Kumaraswamy said.

Senior Samajwadi Party leader Ram Gopal Yadav today alleged that Yogi Adityanath is an "incapable" chief minister and said he committed a "sin" by terming the Ardh Kumbh as Kumbh.
In 2017, the Uttar Pradesh government had said that the Ardh Kumbh would be referred to as Kumbh and the Kumbh as Maha Kumbh.
"Adityanath is an incapable chief minister. He committed a sin by terming Ardh Kumbh as Kumbh and tried to belie shastras, which say Kumbh is held in every 12 years," he told during an election meeting.

Slamming NC leader Omar Abdullah for advocating a separate prime minister for Jammu and Kashmir, BJP president Amit Shah today asked Congress chief Rahul Gandhi to clarify his stand on the issue raised by his electoral ally.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president also asserted that his party, whether in power or in opposition, would never let such a demand get fulfilled.
"Omar Abdullah says there should be a separate prime minister in Jammu and Kashmir. His associates are shouting pro-Pakistan slogans and Congress is silent," Shah said at a rally in Uttarkashi in the hill state of Uttarakhand where all five parliamentary constituencies will go to polls in a single phase on 11 April.

Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri today alleged that the AAP is seeking votes from Delhiites by spreading "lies" on several issues and asserted that a party which does not have the expertise of running an administration nor dedication towards works, is resorting to lies.
The Union Housing and Urban Affairs tweeted a purported campaign pamphlet of AAP's east Delhi candidate Atishi and said a bunch of lies has been prepared by her.
In the pamphlet, the party promises regularisation of unauthorised colonies once the national capital gets full statehood and also promises to stop the sealing drive in the city.

The Communist Party of India today announced its candidates for nine Lok Sabha seats from Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand and Bihar.
The candidate list released by the party includes East Champaran in Bihar, Chatra seat in Jharkhand and Shahdol in Madhya Pradesh as well as six seats in Uttar Pradesh.
The party has announced Prabhakar Jaiswal from the East Champaran seat, Arjun Kumar from Chatra and Keshkali Kol from Shahdol.
In Uttar Pradesh, the party has named Satish Kumar from the Bareilly seat, Chandra Koree from Shahjahanpur, Mahendra Pratap Verma from Banda, Ashish Singh from Gorakhpur, Triloki Nath from Lalganj and Santosh Pratap Singh from Balia.

Four-time lawmaker and Congress's Chandigarh candidate Pawan Kumar Bansal today lashed out at his rival and sitting BJP MP Kirron Kher, alleging "nothing has been achieved" during her tenure, and said his priority would be to restore the "lost glory" of 'city beautiful'. The Congress had fielded the former railway minister from the Chandigarh Lok Sabha seat on 2 April.
Commenting on the tenure of actor-turned-politician Kher, Bansal said, "It has been totally disappointing experience for people. Nothing has been achieved. Only superficial things have been done." He lamented that the ranking of 'city beautiful', as Chandigarh is popularly known, plunged from the third spot to the 20th in the 'Swachh Survekshan' 2019. "The city has lagged behind in every segment."

Senior AAP leader Gopal Rai today asked the Congress to support the demand of full statehood for Delhi so that the people of the national capital can lead their lives with dignity.
In a letter to Congress President Rahul Gandhi, Rai said the grand old party should support the demand for full statehood to Delhi instead of proposing to amend GNCTD Act 1991.
In its manifesto released Tuesday, the Congress said it "promises to amend the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD) Act, 1991 to make it clear that the lieutenant governor shall act on the aid and advice of the Council of Ministers except in matters concerning the three reserved subjects." Rai said this was "extremely disappointing."

A show-cause notice has been served on Rujira Naroola, wife of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's nephew Abhishek Banerjee, for allegedly making false representation and concealing material facts while submitting documents before the competent authorities to get her Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) and PAN cards, officials said today.
In the notice, the Home Ministry said discrepancies have been detected in the declaration of Naroola's nationality and father's name in separate applications for PIO card, conversion of Person of Indian Origin (PIO) to OCI card and PAN card and hence her registration as OCI cardholder is liable for cancellation in public interest.

Puducherry has a total voter strength of 9.73 lakh with women outnumbering men, according to the electoral roll released ahead of the 18 April Lok Sabha election to the lone constituency in the union territory.
The number of women voters stood at 5.13 lakh while that of men 4.59 lakh and 96 voters come under the 'other' category, Chief Electoral officer V Candavelou said in a release.
The union territory has four regions - Puducherry, Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam.

The Congress manifesto drew fresh criticism from the BJP today with Prime Minister Narendra Modi alleging it is a 'dhakosla patra' (sham manifesto) full of lies and the party chief Amit Shah and Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman saying the promise to review AFSPA would pose a threat to the country.
The pledge to scrap the British-era sedition law that is reviled by activists was also slammed with Shah asking the Congress who was it trying to protect.

Narendra Modi and Mamata Banerjee today went for each other's jugular in battleground West Bengal, with the prime minister castigating "Speed Breaker Didi" for stalling the state's development and the TMC chief hitting back warning he will face a "voter strike".
At both the rallies, Modi slammed Opposition parties for seeking proof of the damage done by the Indian Air Force in Pakistan's Balakot where terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed's training camps were targeted.
"When the wound has been inflicted there (in Pakistan), why do you (the Opposition) feel the pain. The 'didi' sitting in Kolkata felt the pain more than those in Islamabad, Lahore and Rawalpindi," Modi said, taking a swipe at Banerjee, who had demanded proof of the extent of damage inflicted during the IAF raids in Balakot.
Hardly had Modi concluded his speech at Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata when Banerjee took the microphone at a rally in north Bengal's Dinhata, calling the prime minister "expiry babu" (one whose time to go had come).
"I am not Modi, I don't tell lies," she declared, as she took on the prime minister over his "speedbreaker Didi" jibe.

Dubbing the Congress' election manifesto as a "bunch of lies", former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan today said even former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru did not try to repeal the sedition law, which the grand old party has now promised.
Chouhan also accused Congress president Rahul Gandhi of being an "international liar" saying that he is making false promises ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.

The Delhi High Court today directed the Election Commission of India (ECI) to decide by Thursday the representations of an organisation which has alleged that Andhra Pradesh government has attempted to influence voters by launching schemes, including giving monetary benefits, ahead of polls.
The organisation has alleged that disbursal of money under these schemes after Lok Sabha election has been notified amounted to violation of model code of conduct.

More than 4.51 crore voters, including 10.06 lakh first-timers, are eligible to exercise their franchise across the 26 Lok Sabha constituencies in Gujarat that goes to the polls on 23 April, a top official said today.
The figure, which saw a drop in third gender voters, was arrived at after revision of electoral rolls in the state.

The BJP today targeted Congress chief Rahul Gandhi, alleging that he is leading a good life and taking foreign holidays without any substantial source of income by making "sweetheart deals" with fly-by-night operators.
"I have myself studied them personally and it is necessary to make the analysis public. This person (Rahul Gandhi) has not done any business in his life. But, he has been leading a good life, taking foreign holidays, etc." He further said a media expose has revealed that the family owned a farm house in South Delhi which is now owned by the brother and sister of current generation of the family.

Resumption of iron ore mining and scrapping of the 2019 Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) notification would be the major promises in Congress' manifesto for Lok Sabha polls in Goa, a senior leader said today.
The date of the manifesto's release is yet to be announced.
The mining in Goa came to a grinding halt in March 2018 when the Supreme Court set aside renewal of 88 mining leases for illegalities.

Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said the Congress manifesto is a result of dialogue which is diametrically opposite to Modi's monologue through his 'Mann Ki Baat' radio address.
"PM Modi and the BJP are absolutely rattled by the Congress manifesto which promises 'Nyay' - justice to people of India. PM Modi's frustration was clearly visible in his rallies today,” he said.
