The AIADMK mouthpiece Namadhu Amma on Wednesday, 15 May, published a derogatory article calling actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan “mentally ill.” Twitter slammed the article calling it “disgusting” and “vitriolic.”
This comes days after the Makkal Needhi Maiam chief remarked that India’s first “terrorist was a Hindu”, referring to Nathuram Godse – the man who assassinated Mahatma Gandhi. In the very first line of the opinion piece, the author implies that this is a response to Kamal’s comment on Godse.
The title of the article, which translates to ‘Will a stud bull understand the purity of the Hindu Dharma’ – also carries a photo of Kamal embracing his daughter Shruti Haasan.
People on Twitter slammed the mouthpiece for using a photo of Kamal’s daughter to attack him.
The article questions the Election Commission for “allowing a mental man” to contest the polls.
“I don't understand why the EC is allowing this 'mental' man to go on with the elections,” the article reads, calling for the commission to initiate a ban on the political party.
According to The News Minute, the article demanded that Kamal must immediately apologise for his derogatory post about Hindu religion.
"He acts like a socialist one day and a Periyarist on another. He acts like a believer, as an Avataram and then as an atheist. He has played several roles and this mental man who tours Tamil Nadu has become a complete villain. He must immediately apologise for talking derogatorily about the Hindu religion," the report said.
"In one movie he takes on god, in another triggers fight between Shaivites and Vaishnavites and in the next film he glorifies terrorism," the article reads.
