A farmer from Uttarakhand who killed himself on Monday, 8 April, is said to have left behind a suicide note that urges the public not to vote for the current BJP government again.
Sixty-five-year-old Ishwar Chand Sharma from Haridwar district reportedly drank poison early on Monday morning.
However, police have not yet authenticated the suicide note, reported India Today.
His letter also had allegations against a certain middleman who was blackmailing him for Rs 4 lakh after being his guarantor and helping him get a loan worth Rs 5 lakh.
Police confirmed that during their initial investigations the farmer had indeed taken a Rs 5 lakh loan.
According to The Times of India report, Congress state-vice president Suryakant Dhasmana said, “This is sad that when Narendra Modi was announcing compensation for farmers in his manifesto, a farmer killed himself in Laksar because of his wrong policies.”
Subsequently, BJP’s spokesperson Devendra Bhasin dismissed the Congress’ comments.
