At press conference today, Congress leader Raj Babbar made a sexist jibe at West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, remarking that she knew “the size of the Prime Minister’s kurta”.
This comes after a recent ‘apolitical’ interview with Bollywood star Akshay Kumar, when Prime Minister Modi had said that he has “many good friends” in the Opposition, including Banerjee who sent him “sweets and kurtas” two-three times a year.
Babbar further questioned the Trinamool Congress’ anti-BJP stance and said that the ruling party in Bengal resorted to poll violence as it was scared of free and fair polls.
Babbar’s comment has drawn criticism from Trinamool Congress leader Partha Chatterjee.
“He is not as experienced in politics, as he is in cinema. He doesn't know courtesy. He does not understand that courtesy and politics are not same,” said the Trinamool leader as reported by NDTV.
Earlier, senior Left Front leader Sitaram Yechury had also questioned “the arrangement” between the BJP and the Trinamool.
“Why is it a secret that has to be talked about by PM Modi publicly now? Did you ever hear about didi choosing kurtas for Modi, earlier? Why this secrecy? This is a classic example of kushti and dosti... Is there a gameplan?” Yechury had said.
