Delhi MCD election results 2022 live updates: After the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) scored a historic win in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi elections on Wednesday, 7 December, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said, "I congratulate the people of Delhi for this win and thank them for bringing change."
While the AAP managed to secure victory in 134 wards across the National Capital, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) managed win 104 seats, exceeding predictions made during exit polls. Meanwhile, the Congress bagged only 9 seats in the civic body election.
The AAP's historic win puts an end to the Bharatiya Janata Party's 15-year-old rule in Delhi's civic body.
The results are as follows:
Elections to the 250 wards in Delhi were held on 4 December, where a total of 1,349 candidates contested the polls, which took place for the first time since the civic bodies were unified earlier this year.

The India Today-Axis My India exit poll predicted a clear victory for AAP, with close to 50 percent vote share in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections which were held on 4 December.
The India Today-Axis My India poll suggests that AAP may secure 149-171 seats, while the BJP is likely to get 69-91 seats. The Congress is forecasted to get 3-7 seats.
As per the Times Now-ETG exit polls, AAP is likely to get 146-156 seats while what BJP may get 84-94 seats, and Congress is predicted to get 6-10 seats.
The NewsX exit poll gave the AAP 159-175 seats and predicted that the BJP would get 70-92 wards.
Counting of votes in the pivotal MCD election will begin at 8 am.

What is the MCD? It is a civic body that governs most of Delhi and is responsible for running hospitals, managing water supply, maintaining roads and the drainage system, building parks, and street lights, supervising construction work. Waste management and the overall cleanliness of the city comes under the MCD's purview as well.
How large is the MCD? It consists of 250 wards, which is 22 less than the 272 that comprised before it was unified earlier this year.
Which party currently holds power in the MCD? The Bharatiya Janata Party has controlled the MCD for the last 15 years, and has won the last three elections that took place in 2017, 2012, and 2007.
Why did the BJP want a unified MCD? BJP leaders have maintained that finances and efficiency were always central to their desire of a unified MCD.

With the ward share swinging wildly, both AAP and BJP leads are near the majority mark of 126.
"We worked for the disposal of garbage and it continued even during the pandemic. The BJP has worked. That's why we're confident that the next mayor will be from the BJP. Last time too, surveys gave only 50 seats to the BJP but we won 2/3rd majority," Delhi BJP leader Harish Khurana was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.
"We are going to get more than 180 seats. If voters favour us, we can also cross 230 seats. The mayor will be from our party. I think exit polls are pointing towards the victory of Aam Aadmi Party," AAP MLA Saurabh Bharadwaj was quoted as saying.

With just a lead of 9 so far, the AAP has won 49 seats. The BJP has secured 40 seats in the contest for the civic body, while the Congress is a distant third with 4 seats.

"The mayor will be from the AAP. The BJP had covered Delhi in garbage, it'll be cleaned and Arvind Kejriwal's government will be formed in the MCD. The people of Delhi had decided to bring AAP in MCD so that Delhi become clean and beautiful," AAP MP Raghav Chadha told reporters as the party takes lead in civic body poll results.
The AAP has taken a definitive lead in the MCD election results, winning 20 seats more than the BJP by 12:55 pm.

Here's a look at the vote share of various parties till 12:10 pm, as per data from the state election commission.
The AAP is inching towards the 100-mark, winning 89 wards till 12:15 pm.
"The AAP has breached the BJP fort and ended the rule of garbage and corruption. The people of Delhi have answered to the dirty politics of the BJP by casting their votes. The levelled false allegations against Manish Sisodia, Satyendar Jain, published fake videos, but the people of Delhi voted for their honest son Arvind Kejriwal. I challenge the BJP to harass us and arrest us, but the people of Delhi have shown them the door," AAP MP Sanjay Singh said.
AAP leaders Manish Sisodia, Raghav Chadha, and Bhagwant Mann have huddled at Delhi CM Kejriwal's house as counting of votes continues.
"Arvind Kejriwal uprooted 15-year-long Congress rule in Delhi and now the 15-yr-long (BJP) rule in the MCD. It shows people of Delhi don't like politics of hatred; they vote for schools, hospitals, electricity, cleanliness and infrastructure," Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann was quoted as saying by ANI.
The AAP has crossed the 100-mark as of 12:40 pm, as per SEC data. The BJP is trailing behind with 84 wards.
The party has garnered the Burari and Bhalswa wards as per the latest results, while the BJP has won in Paschim Vihar and Punjabi Bagh.
"The ill-fated rule of the BJP is over. I would like to congratulate all the volunteers of the AAP who made this victory possible," AAP leader Durgesh Pathak said.
Congress candidate Sameer Ahmad has won the Shastri Park seat. This is the sixth seat the party has won in the MCD polls so far.
The AAP has attained victory in 116 wards, inching towards the majority mark of 126 required to win the election.
"The BJP got a befitting reply from the people of Delhi. The people have voted for the one who works for development. Today, Delhi has wiped out the mud that BJP tried to throw at Arvind Kejriwal. We will transform Delhi into the most beautiful city in the world," AAP leader Raghav Chadha said.
The Aam Aadmi Party has crossed the majority mark of 126 to score a historic win in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi elections, putting an end to the BJP's 15-year-old rule in Delhi's civic body.

AAP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh said, "In comparison to the previous MCD elections results, this time, the BJP has suffered defeat on 80 seats. We have more seats than the majority mark. Still, some BJP leaders are saying that mayor will be from their party."
It seems AAP won not so much due to any losses to the BJP but by consolidating anti-BJP votes that had earlier gone to the Congress, BSP and Independents. The BJP also proved all the Exit Polls wrong, by crossing the 100 mark.

"Although it's nice to see a tightly contested election between AAP & BJP, I am deeply disappointed at Congress result. Introspection and structural change vital," Congress's Abhishek Manu Singhvi said.
News agency ANI, quoting sources in the BJP, reported that the party has called a meeting of its key office bearers of Delhi in the evening at the party headquarters. Later, a meeting of winning councillors has also been called, the report added.
"It is a big victory. This was a big task to achieve. I extend congratulations to all including Kejriwal ji," Former cricketer and AAP MP Harbhajan Singh told ANI.
The AAP is now faced with a decision it hasn't had to deal with in its tenure so far — the election of a mayor for a unified Delhi Municipal Corporation, and by extension, a mayor for all of Delhi.
