Senior AAP leader and Delhi’s Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Tuesday, 16 April, said that their party has appointed Sanjay Singh to hold meetings with a Congress representative to come up with a plan to defeat the BJP in 18 seats – including Delhi, Haryana and Punjab.

However, just minutes before Sisodia’s tweet, AAP Minister Gopal Rao alleged that the Congress was trying to help the BJP by refusing to ally with them in the remaining 11 seats from Punjab and Haryana.

“Congress is saying they will win three and AAP will win four. Why do they want BJP to win the remaining 11 seats (in Haryana and Punjab)?”

Amid increasing discussion on whether there would be an alliance in Delhi, Congress president Rahul Gandhi and AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal traded barbs.

Gandhi had announced on Twitter that while the Congress was willing to enter into an alliance with the AAP, Arvind Kejriwal had done a ‘U-turn’.

Minutes after Gandhi’s tweet, Kejriwal came out with his own, even more strongly worded tweet. Questioning Gandhi about what ‘U-turn’ he was talking about, Kejriwal said that the Congress president did not actually want a coalition. He also lashed out at Gandhi, saying that instead of saving the nation from PM Modi and Amit Shah, he was distributing the anti-Modi votes in Uttar Pradesh and other states.
