The 2018 Assembly Election results are givings several strong signals.

Election results from Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan show that Congress chief Rahul Gandhi has been able to excel despite the negative branding. Congress has been able to penetrate BJP’s North India vote bank. However, the party now must work towards overcoming their internal rifts. The Quint’s Editorial Director Sanjay Pugalia analyses the situation after the 2018 election results.

The cumulative election results have sent a strong message for UP Elections, clearly asserting that there is a need to resort to politics of alliance in order to defeat the BJP in the state. There is also a need to bring clarity on seat distribution. India will return to coalition politics in 2019.

The results have raised several questions for the BJP, which has witnessed a drop in vote share among weaker and backward sections, but has been able to retain it’s grip over urban masses.

Clearly- village, poverty, farmers’ distress, unemployment and Dalit outrage are the five big challenges for BJP. Flagship schemes like Ujjwala, Mudra and Fasal Bima yojana didn’t benefit the BJP.
