COVID-19: India Detects 1.07 Lakh Cases, Schools & Colleges To Reopen in Bihar

India reported a decline in daily cases, recording 1,07,474 new COVID-19 infections 2,13,246 recoveries and 865 deaths in the last 24 hours.

Active cases in the country stand at 12,25,011.

The daily positivity rate is at 7.42 percent, while the weekly positivity rate stands at 10.20 percent.

Meanwhile, educational institutions in Uttar Pradesh for classes nine and above, as well as all degree colleges, are slated to resume functioning with adherence to COVID-19 protocol, from Monday, 7 February, as per a state government notice.

DCGI Grants Emergency Use Approval to Sputnik Light COVID Vaccine

Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) on Sunday, 6 February, granted emergency use permission to single-dose Sputnik Light COVID-19 vaccine in India, Union Health Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya said in a tweet.

Mandaviya added, "This is 9th COVID-19 vaccine in the country. This will further strenghten the nation's collective fight against the pandemic."

Gujarat Reports 3,897 New Cases

Gujarat reported 3,897 new COVID-19 cases, 10,273 recoveries, and 19 deaths in the last 24 hours.

Assam Reports 256 New Cases

Assam reported 256 new COVID-19 cases, 2,471 recoveries, and 12 fatalities in the last 24 hours.

Kerala Reports 26,729 New Cases

Kerala reported 26,729 new COVID-19 cases, 49,261 recoveries and 22 deaths in last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, 115 deaths which were not added due to lack of documents and 378 deaths were added to the COVID death list as per new guidelines of central govt, the state government said.

Delhi Reports 1,410 New Cases

Delhi reported 1,410 new cases, 14 fatalities, and 2,506 recoveries in the last 24 hours.

Active cases currently stand at 8,869.

Jharkhand Reports 449 New Cases

Jharkhand reported 449 new COVID-19 cases and two deaths on Sunday.

The number of active cases currently stands at 2,787 active cases, while 715 people have recovered in the last 24 hours.

Odisha Reports 2,106 New Cases

Odisha reported 2,106 new COVID cases (lowest in a month), and 23 deaths on Sunday.

Further, the daily positivity rate has dropped to 3.48 percent.

Classes 9 and Above To Open With 100% Capacity: Bihar CM

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced on Sunday that schools up to class 8 will re-open with 50 percent capacity and all schools for classes 9 and above, colleges and coaching institutes will open with 100 percent capacity.

Kumar added that cinema halls, clubs, gyms, stadiums, swimming pools, and restaurants will resume operations at 50 percent capacity.

Puducherry Reports 279 New Cases

Puducherry reported 279 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday, a drop from Saturday's 344 cases.

Currently, there are 4,152 active cases in the UT with 96 patients admitted in hospitals taking treatment while the remaining 4,056 patients are recovering in home isolation.

Ladakh Reports 111 New Cases

Ladakh's reported 111 new COVID cases on Sunday.

The death count remained unchanged at 226, while 165 patients were discharged from hospitals after recovering from the infection.

The active cases in the union territory currently stand at 1,025, with the positivity rate at 4.2 percent.

The Delhi prisons have started allowing physical 'mulaqat' (meeting) of inmates with family and friends as cases of COVID-19 have come down.

UP Schools for Class 9 and Above, Degree Colleges to Reopen on Monday
