53,601 New COVID-19 Cases Take India’s Tally to 22.68 Lakh; 45,257 Deaths

India on Tuesday reported 53,601 new coronavirus cases, taking the tally in the country to 22,68,676. Meanwhile, the death toll increased by 871 to 45,257.

According to the Union Health Ministry data, there are currently 6,39,929 active cases across the country, while 15,83,489 patients have been discharged.

2.52 Cr Samples Tested For COVID-19 Till Now: ICMR

The total number of samples tested for COVID-19 up to 10 August stands at 2,52,81,848, including 6,98,290 samples that were tested on Monday, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said.

MP CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan Tests Negative for COVID-19

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has tested negative for COVID-19.

The CM tweeted that he will be in isolation till Wednesday, on the recommendation of doctors. He also thanked the entire team of doctors and nurses that attended to him, as well as his well-wishers.

Russia Registers First COVID-19 Vaccine, Despite Skepticism

Russia on Tuesday became the first country to officially register a coronavirus vaccine and declare it ready for use, despite international skepticism, reported Associate Press. President Vladimir Putin said that one of his daughters has already been inoculated.

However, scientists have been raising concerns over the rush to start using the vaccine before Phase 3 trials could backfire, reported Associate Press.

Urdu Poet Rahat Indori, Hospitalised for COVID-19, Passes Away

Urdu poet Rahat Indori passed away on Tuesday, 11 August, at the hospital, informed ANI. According to Dr Vinod Bhandari of Sri Aurobindo Hospital:

“He suffered two heart attacks today and could not be saved. He was admitted to hospital on Sunday, after testing positive for COVID-19. He had 60% pneumonia.”

If Russia's Vaccine is Successful, We Will Examine it: AIIMS Director

AIIMS Director Randeep Guleria reportedly told ANI, “If Russia's vaccine is successful, then we will have to see critically whether it is safe and effective.”

Delhi Reports 1,257 COVID-19 Cases

Delhi reports 1,257 COVID-19 cases, 727 recovered/discharged/migrated cases and 8 deaths on Tuesday. The total positive cases in Delhi rise to 1,47,391 including 1,32,384 recovered/discharged/migrated cases and 4139 deaths, reported ANI, citing Delhi Government.

The ministry cited restrictions imposed by the government on the mass transport system amid the COVID-19 pandemic, according to Hindustan Times.

Religious places/places of worship within the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir to open from 16 August, informed the J&K government in a circular. Installation and use of Aarogya Setu App mandatory for all visitors.
