India on Monday, 31 August, reported 78,512 new cases of coronavirus, taking the tally in the country to 36,21,246. Meanwhile, the death toll increased by 971 to 64,469.

According to the Union health ministry data, there are currently 7,81,975 active COVID-19 cases across the country, while 27,74,801 patients have been discharged, and one had migrated.

78,512 New Cases Take India’s COVID-19 Tally to 36.2 Lakh; 64,469 Deaths

India on Monday reported 78,512 new cases of coronavirus, taking the tally in the country to 36,21,246. Meanwhile, the death toll increased by 971 to 64,469.

According to the Union health ministry data, there are currently 7,81,975 active COVID-19 cases across the country, while 27,74,801 patients have been discharged, and one had migrated.

4.23 Cr Samples Tested for COVID-19 Till Now: ICMR

The total number of samples tested for COVID-19 up to 30 August stands at 4,23,07,914, including 8,46,278 samples that were tested on Sunday, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said.

Don't Need Support from Centre as Long as They Don't Object to More Testing: Delhi Health Min

Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain on Monday said his government doesn't need any specific support from the Centre as long as they don't object to more testing.

Maharashtra Govt Extends Lockdown Till 30 September

The Maharashtra government has extended the lockdown in the state till 30 September. Interdistrict transport of goods and persons are allowed and private bus and minibus are also allowed to operate. Hotels and lodges will be allowed to operate at 100 percent capacity from 2 September, but schools, colleges, cinema halls and swimming pools will continue to remain closed till 30 September.

Lockdown Not Applicable to JEE/NEET Students: Rajasthan Govt

The Rajasthan government on Monday said that lockdown will not be applicable to students appearing in JEE and NEET exams and their parents in Rajasthan, adding that their admit cards will be considered as the pass for them.

US Crosses 6 Million COVID-19 Cases

The US on Monday, 31 August, passed the threshold of six million COVID-19 cases, data from Johns Hopkins’ COVID-19 tracker shows.

The country remains by far the most impacted in the world by the pandemic in absolute terms, with nearly a quarter of global infections and 183,203 deaths from COVID-19, the Baltimore-based university's tracker showed, AFP said.
