Volkswagen chief executive on Sunday apologised for the emission scandal that has engulfed the German carmaker since September.

Volkswagen found itself in soup after it was found cheating diesel car emissions tests for which Matthias Mueller apologised. Mueller was on his first official visit to the US.

We know we deeply disappointed our customers, the responsible government bodies, and the general public here in America. I apologize for what went wrong at Volkswagen.

Mueller was speaking at the media conference which was held on the eve of the Detroit auto show.

He further said that the auto giant is “fully committed to making things right.”
