Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal Granted Bail in Majithia Defamation Case

Bikram Majithia had filed a defamation case against Kejriwal and other AAP leaders for maligning his image in May.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was granted bail, on Friday, in the defamation case filed by Bikram Singh Majithia, Revenue Minister of Punjab. Kejriwal was in Amritsar while he was granted bail as the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) held a closed door meeting.

Majithia had filed the defamation case against three AAP leaders for making false statements against him, maligning his image.

Separately, Majithia had also filed a defamation case against AAP leader Sanjay Singh. In February, a Ludhiana court granted bail to Singh in the case.

Majithia is a cabinet minister in Punjab and the brother-in-law of Deputy Chief Minister and Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal. Majithia is the younger brother of India’s food processing minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal.

The AAP is challenging the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal-BJP alliance and the Congress in the February 2017 Assembly elections.
