It’s election season and The Quint is all set to get you both news and views as Mamata Banerjee’s West Bengal gears up for the upcoming polls.

The six-phase election, from 4 April to 5 May, is crucial for the ruling Trinamool Congress. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee faces strong opposition from her one-time ally, the BJP.

In 2011, Mamata Banerjee overthrew the three decade-old Left government and came to power for the first time after a resounding victory. But, ever since Didi came to power, incidents like the Park Street rape and Kamduni rapes exposed weaknesses in the law and order mechanism of the state under a woman chief minister.

While Banerjee is seemingly unfazed in the face of all the allegations, the Saradha scam in 2013 and more recently, the sting operation by Narada News have cast doubts on the honesty of Didi’s administration.

But the most important factor in a democracy is the electorate. Will Mamata Banerjee win hearts and votes yet again?

The Quint will be on the streets of West Bengal to get you the answers.
