Audi is famous for its luxury automobiles and sports cars, but back in the 90’s it made quite a splash when it decided to make a coupe, called the Audi TT.

Cut to 2015. The third generation Audi TT was launched in India recently. First impressions? Audi has clearly spent most of its money on decking the interiors than the exteriors of the new Audi TT.

Audi has decked up the car with a ‘Virtual cockpit’ that will give you a feel of sitting inside a fighter jet even while on the road. The Audi TT has a compact cabin as it’s a two-seat, three-door coupe. There are two baby seats in the back which aren’t the most comfortable. Audi has efficiently managed to make for some space inside the TT which is not usually an Audi feature.

Audi has gotten rid of the central display panel for the information system and put it behind the steering wheel. The 12.3 inch digital display is beautiful and can put any multimedia interface inside any car to shame. It’s designed in such a way that it is totally non intrusive for the driver as he concentrates on the road.

The 12.3 inch digital display can be set in two different modes – ‘Classic,’ where you see the speedometer and tachometer, or the ‘Infotainment’ mode where the instrument dials become small.

Every little thing that moves inside the car can be seen on that display if you want to. The TT also gives you bits of unnecessary information like fuel consumption. This is disconcerting, because if you plan to buy a TT the last thing on your mind should be – “kitna deti hai?” The car will at best give you 4.8 Km/l in the dynamic mode. And that is the mode that you want to drive the TT all the time.

On the digital display you are able to access the satellite navigation, bluetooth connectivity with smart devices and a host of other features. The Audi TT also syncs with your smartphone with ease. However, while this was found to be smooth sailing with an iPhone, when we tried to sync in an Android device the car took its own sweet time.

Audi also loaded the TT with a MMI smart touch wheel. This jog dial can be used to navigate the features of the car. There is also a touchpad on top of the rotary push button that recognises gestures and even handwriting. As India is a right hand drive county, one has to learn how to write with their left hand to use it. For left handed people this is something of an advantage.

What really catches your eye apart from the beautiful display are the air vents of the air conditioning system. They have a circular design that will remind you of jet engines and all the controls of the aircon system are housed on individual vents themselves.

The music system is powered by Bang and Olufsen, the epitome of luxury and quality.

Audi has made the new TT very practical for the driver. Everything he wants to know is in front of him and in a non intrusive way.

Audi TT is by no means your stereotypically uncomfortable sports car, although it does have a tendency to go wild. But that controlled aggression is enough to raise the hair at the back of your neck. It’s a car with power alongside luxury and comfort for the driver and his one co-passenger.

Audi TT 2015 is one ultimate living and breathing gizmo to own and an expensive one too at Rs 60 Lakhs.
