On his maiden visit to India, Apple CEO Tim Cook launched an ambitious plan to tap into India’s startup ecosystem with an app ‘design and development’ centre in Bengaluru. The move is aimed at supporting developers in India creating innovative mobile apps for its iOS platform.

Cook arrived in India on Tuesday and is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other officials as part of his trip. He is also expected to meet Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who is trying to attract big-ticket investments for his state.
Sources told NDTV that Cook is expected to announce a new digital maps centre in Hyderabad.

Tim Cook began his visit to India by making a trip to Mumbai’s Siddhivinayak Temple.
There are rumours that actor Shah Rukh Khan is planning to throw a big party for him, after Cook expressed a desire to meet him.
His visit to India comes at a time when the US technology giant is hit by slower growth in global sales of its flagship products – iPhone, iPad and Mac.
The Apple CEO is flying to the country from China, where Apple announced a $1 billion investment in the local ride-hailing app Didi Chuxing.
