When Samsung was about to launch its next range of flagship phones, the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, we had our doubts.
The Galaxy S6 and the S6 Edge were innovative devices and to up the ante would have been tough for Samsung. We almost expected a disappointing product based on the lukewarm response the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus got.
But Samsung has definitely managed to keep the audience with the new launches.
Samsung has finally launched the S7 and S7 Edge in India at Rs 48,900 and 56,900 respectively. We got our hands on the S7 Edge and it does manage to impress.
The Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge looks pretty similar to the S6 Edge. You get a good build quality with the metal and glass finish.
Samsung has finally got the screen size on the S7 Edge right at 5.5-inch.
It has a resolution of 2560x1440 pixels and a pixel density of 534 ppi. That’s more than what you’ll probably need to watch Netflix in HD. Also, the Corning Gorilla Glass 4 gives you the much-required protection for the delicate edge display.
It fits perfectly in the palm of your hand and allows you to access 80 percent of the screen using one hand.
The edged Super AMOLED display is bright, crisp and pretty much what you expect from a flagship Samsung device.
What’s even more impressive about the Galaxy S7 Edge is that it’s a smartphone that’s IP68 Water Resistant and Dust Proof. Thankfully, Samsung understood that a phone that usually costs a bomb should come with some damage control features.
In India, Samsung will be offering the S7 Edge with an Exynos 8890 processor that will be backed by 4GB of RAM. There is also 32GB of internal storage that can be expanded up to 200GB. Samsung has also included a hybrid SIM slot on the S7 Edge which basically gives you the option of making it a dual-SIM smartphone.
Now, that’s a very smart move from the company as India is known to be a dual-SIM friendly market.
Samsung has also made some changes to the camera. The S7 Edge’s 12-megapixel camera has a f/1.7 aperture, allowing for better low-light photography. It also comes packed with regular flagship features like phase detection autofocus, OIS and LED flash.
Having said so, we’re still not sure if the camera is capable of clicking macro-shots on auto-mode. Samsung insists that you use selective focus for that.
The images are definitely better than what we got on the Galaxy S6 due to the Dual-Pixel technology used by Samsung on their new phones.
The front camera has a 5-megapixel sensor and an aperture of f/1.7.
Samsung has loaded the phone with a 3,600 mAh battery and is a future ready phone with VO-LTE, SIg+ technology and LTE CAT 9.
At Rs 56,900 the phone is expensive but still cheaper than what the new iPhones were launched at.
And we all know one thing about Samsung – the price always drops after 3 months of the launch. The phone is impressive and looks stunning for now, but watch this space for the full review of the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge.
