If you’re a certain kind of tech-freak, chances are you’re plugged into every development at CES 2016 including Samsung’s new smart fridge. If you want to believe what Samsung says, this is not just yet another fridge. The company has clearly honed in on the fact that for many families, the kitchen is the hub.

And so, armed with this piece of consumer insight, it is offering the Samsung Family Hub Refrigerator. The company claims this is the most cutting edge fridge available — given that it is packed with some serious innovation.

The Samsung Family Hub refrigerator is a multi-tasker that reconnects families, organises groceries and home tasks, and even provides entertainment.

All communications on the fridge are housed and displayed on a 21.5-inch full HD LCD resolution screen located on the upper right exterior door.

It’s got three high-quality cameras inside the fridge that capture an image every time the door closes. You can then access those images anytime using your smartphone and take a peek inside your fridge. Even if you’re at the store and forget to check on for dinner.

That’s not all, Samsung says that you can even use the refrigerator to do online grocery shopping with credit cards, as well as manage recipes and compile and share shopping lists. Whew.

There’s more. It also offers options for music streaming to play through its built-in speaker or connect to your Bluetooth wireless speakers to enjoy music throughout the home.

If Samsung has its way, we will all in the future be investing in Family Hubs. Of course, creating a product and creating a market for such a product are two very different things. Ask Apple about the Apple TV.

Don’t get me wrong. I’d love to have one of these monsters in my kitchen. Except I can’t afford it because it will probably cost me Rs. 20-25 lakh. Only a precious few in India would be able to afford it.
