While normal life has been thrown out of gear by the devastating floods in Chennai, many companies around the city have come forward in a bid to help the locals. Brands like Twitter, Airtel and PayTM among others are doing their bit to make sure communication channels are up and running.
The micro-blogging site is replete with messages, pleas and information on helpline numbers to help stranded people in the city through the hashtag #ChennaiRains. In addition, there’s also the #ChennaiRainsHelp hashtag that addressed relief and rescue efforts in the region. Celebrities have actively taken to Twitter to make sure these messages and information reach a wide audience.
Airtel
Airtel is offering benefits to its customers in the flood-stricken area. Their prepaid users get talktime of up to Rs 30, giving them free talktime of 10 minutes for Airtel-to-Airtel calls, which is valid for two days. In addition to the call benefits, users get 50MB of free mobile data, also valid for two days. Post-paid users won’t lose their connection for unpaid bills.
PayTM
India-based payment brand, PayTM has also made sure that people who need to recharge their mobile or pay bills can rely on them.
Residents can call on 18001030033 and share the mobile number that they want to get topped-up. PayTM will facilitate a Rs 30 recharge instantly and absolutely free of cost.PayTM
Zomato
Deepinder Goyal, CEO of Zomato, announced ‘Meal for flood relief’ where for every meal a customer buys, Zomato will buy the same for flood victims.
Ola
The app-based cab service company Ola Tweeted out a number which can be called on by the locals if they are stuck in the rains and need assistance.
Vodafone
Vodafone is offering pre-approved ‘chhota credit’ of Rs10 to all pre-paid customers and a credit of 10 minutes for Vodafone to Vodafone calling. In addition, free 100MB mobile data is being offered to all customers with data enabled handsets. The validity of the talk time credit and free data is two days. For postpaid customers whose bills are due for payment immediately, the time to make the payment is being extended.Vodafone statement
