Microsoft is Back in the Game With Lumia 950 and 950XL Launch

Microsoft, after acquiring Nokia, went into a hibernation of sorts for about a year. But now it’s back with a bang in the Indian market with its new phones – the Lumia 950 and the Lumia 950XL. The Lumia 950 has been priced at Rs 43,699 and its bigger variant, the Lumia 950XL, will be available at Rs 49,399.

The new phones are the first in India to run on Windows 10 Mobile out-of-the-box. The phones will be available from December 11 but pre-bookings have already started at Microsoft stores and its partners.

Both the Lumia 950 and 950XL have a matte polycarbonate body shell, a removable back cover and a removable battery. More than a smartphone, they are touted by the company as productivity devices. Both phones are Dual-SIM and 4G LTE compatible.

Apart from the specs, the key features on both devices is supportive of Windows 10 Continuum feature that, with the help of a Microsoft Display Dock, transform them into a Windows 10 desktop. For a limited time, buyers will get the dock for free with the phones, but it can be bought separately at Rs 5,999.

The Lumia 950 and 950XL also is big on security, with a iris scanner known as Windows Hello to unlock your phone and data. It’s the next level in biometric data protection.

The Lumia 950 comes with a 5.2-inch display that is a QuadHD AMOLED display. The phone is powered by a 1.82GHz hexa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor with Adreno 418 GPU and 3GB RAM. The phone is loaded with a 3,000 mAh battery that supports quick charging with a USB-type C.

The Lumia 950 XL, on the other hand, comes with a 5.7-inch QuadHD AMOLED display and runs on a 2GHz octa-core Qualcomm MSM8994 Snapdragon 810 processor coupled with Adreno 430 GPU with 3 GB of RAM. The phone packs in a 3,340 mAh battery.

Both phones have a 20-megapixel PureView camera and Carl Zeiss optics with Triple LED flash and 5th gen Optical Image Stabilisation.
