Motorola has been making a strong comeback in the Indian smartphone market with the launch of Moto E IInd Gen(4G), Moto G IIIrd Gen, Moto X Play and very recently, the Moto X Style.

The company is offering smartphones under every price range in India. But was the Moto X Style necessary considering the Moto X Play comes at a price difference of Rs 10,000?

Let’s find out.

Key Highlights: Motorola Moto X Style

  • Display: 5.7-inch Quad HD Display
  • Processor: 1.8 GHz Hexa-core Snapdragon 808 Processor
  • RAM: 3 GB
  • Rear Camera: 21MP Camera With LED Flash
  • Front Camera: 5MP Front-facing Camera With LED Flash
  • Battery: 3000mAh
  • Price: Rs 29,999 (16GB) and Rs 31,999 (32GB)

What’s Good?

The Motorola Moto X Style is definitely a notch up as far as the style quotient is concerned. And like its smartphone cousins this one also repels water. It has a better build quality and a dimpled back Motorola design. The phone weighs 179 grams – that’s not on the heavier side of things.

The phone feels compact in your hand and, to an extent, is easy to use with a single hand.

The Moto X Style comes with a brightly lit 5.7 inch Quad HD display that is better than its rivals like the One Plus 2, Samsung Galaxy A8 and HTC E9+.

The phone provides a nearly stock android experience, can handle heavy graphic games and multi-task with ease and without heating up. This is possible mainly due to its 1.8 GHz hexa-core Snapdragon 808 processor and Adreno 418 GPU.

Motorola’s loaded the phone with a 3000 mAh battery that promises 30 hours, just like the Moto X Play. Though it does not last you for an eternity, as promised, it gives you one day of backup easily.

Motorola also bundles the phone with Motorola’s TurboPower 25 charger that charges the phone pretty quickly.

What’s Bad?

The Moto X Style now has a new competitor in the market, the recently launched Google Nexus 5X. The Moto X Style comes with a 21 megapixel primary camera that does not give you good low light images; even images clicked in the daylight are sometimes hazy.

The Nexus 5X comes with a 12.3 megapixel primary camera and we have seen the image results are better on the Nexus than what Motorola promises with the Style.

The speakers on the Moto X Style are not loud enough for even the wake-up alarm.

The phone will cost you almost Rs 10,000 more than the Moto X Play. And just for a little more style and a better display it’s a bit too much to ask.

At Rs 29,999 for 16GB and Rs 31,999 for 32GB it is an expensive given what it has to offer. Plus in this day and age, a 16 GB version makes no sense at all. Sure it has an expandable memory option but that’s an additional cost.

Why Buy it?

The Motorola Moto X Style has tough competition in India and given the price conscious market, the Moto X Play still makes sense over the Moto X Style.

If you are willing to spend in excess of Rs 30,000 the Google Nexus 5X makes more sense considering it also runs Google’s latest Android M operating system.
