Apple is all set to launch the iPhone 6s and the 6s Plus in India on October 16. Apple resellers in India have already started taking bookings for new phones with a token of just Rs 10,000.

Apple has priced the iPhone 6s at Rs 62,000 (16GB), Rs 72,000 (64GB) and Rs 82,000 (128GB) and for the iPhone 6s Plus you have to shell out Rs 72,000 (16GB), Rs 82,000 (64GB) and Rs 92,000 (128GB).

Now that’s really expensive for a smartphone!

Should you really shell out so much money for the iPhone 6s? Before you book it, here are our first impressions of the iPhone 6s.

Watch: First Impression of the iPhone 6s

Design

The iPhone 6s looks exactly like the iPhone 6. There is no difference between the two phones in terms of the looks and the material used for their shells.

You really have to look closely to spot the difference in the ‘S-badging’ at the back panel of the 6s. Also, if you land up with a Rose Gold colour of the 6s, only then people will respect you as a ‘God phone’ user.

Display and 3D Touch

The iPhone 6s uses a similar size display of 4.7 inch that was seen on the iPhone 6. The biggest difference is Apple’s 3D touch on the iPhone 6s.

I thought it was gimmicky at first but then I just got addicted to it. It actually serves a function here. Like if you want to click photos on the go all you have to do is forcefully press the camera app.

The 3D touch is not like the long press, but actually pressing the app hard enough for certain key functions to open. And it works for apps and even within them. I am most excited to see what Apple app developers will do with this new toy.

And guess what? You can put a tempered glass on top of your iPhone 6s for protection and still use the 3D touch seamlessly.

Performance

Apple has loaded the iPhone 6s with its latest A9 chip that is backed by 2GB RAM. The iOS 9 is seamless and hassle free. The 6s taunts all those Android smartphones that try to flaunt their 3GB and 4GB RAM.

This basically is a testament to the fact that Apple knows how to make the marriage between the hardware and software work in harmony.

It’s a custom-designed 64-bit chip that handles graphics-intensive games and apps with ease. It does get warm though but not piping hot as some of its Android counterparts do.

Camera

It’s not that the camera on the iPhone 6 was bad, but Apple has made it better on the iPhone 6s. It loads in a 12-megapixel iSight camera that now actually captures sharp and detailed photos. If you compare images alongside the iPhone 6 there is definitely a huge bump-up in the camera performance.

The phone can also shoot 4K videos, but if you buy a 16GB version of the phone, you’ll have to back your phone up every month.

The iPhone 6s also takes better selfies now as it gets a huge 5-megapixel FaceTime HD camera upgrade over the previous generation 1.9-megapixel sensor. The Retina flash for taking low-light selfies just works as a fill flash while taking low light selfies. It’s not a real flash but the screen goes bright white as you click a selfie.

Battery

It’s just the same as you get on an iPhone 6. Sure, there is a low power mode now with iOS 9 on the phone, but you get that on the iPhone 6 as well. And that also lasts you just for a couple of hours. Battery-wise you’ll still need to carry a charger or a power-bank all the time.

Who Should Buy it?

If you are a first time iPhone buyer and have that kind of money to splurge, go ahead. The new features that it comes with are more usable than Siri, at least in India. For people upgrading from iPhone 4s or iPhone 5 and 5s, it completely makes sense.

You also miss out on some little features on the iOS 9 if you buy the iPhone 6 over the iPhone 6s.

But if you are looking for an upgrade from the iPhone 6 it’s a tough choice to make. iPhone 6 is not even a year old and Apple is already throwing the 6s at you!

However, if you have an iPhone fetish I’m sure you will upgrade even if you bought the iPhone 6 a month back.

But the wise thing to do for people who are using the iPhone 6 right now is to wait for a few more months and get the next iPhone in 2016. I can bet that it will be a better looker.
