Apple’s iPhone 6S might be en route to India in October 2015, but their latest operating system iOS 9 is available for download on your iPhone 6 and other compatible devices.
Guess what? The new iOS will make you feel as if you are using a completely new smartphone.
1. Accessing iCloud is Easier
iCloud on iOS 9 is a little more visible than what you got on iOS 8. Just go to Settings, iCloud then iCloud Drive and toggle the switch marked ‘Show’ on Home Screen to enable the icon shortcut.
2. Smarter Searches
The Spotlight on iOS 9 now makes smarter search recommendations—swipe left from the main home screen and your most frequently used contacts, apps, locations etc; will be shown first, but you can type what you want to search to see further options.
3. Smarter Notes
Notes is another stock app with a lot of new stuff on iOS 9. The app now lets you add web links, photos, checklists and drawings to your notes. Everything can be synced via iCloud. You can draw doodles via your fingers on the screen as well.
4. Search In Settings
Finding what you need in the iOS Settings app was quite difficult but now there is a new search box at the top of the front screen in Settings: Enter your query here and it takes you to the exact setting that you were looking for.
5. A Six Digit Passcode
To improve on security the iOS 9 now gives you a six character passcode on your lock screen instead of just 4 digits. This can be handy if you do not use much of the Touch ID on your iPhone 6.
6. Save Battery
iOS 9 also helps you save battery now with a new low power mode that you can activate from the Battery menu inside Settings. Your battery icon turns yellow and you get a percentage view of the juice that’s left. It basically switches off a few background processes and can add up to an hour of life.
7. The Selfie Folder
Selfie lovers get their own dedicated folder in the Photos app. It just helps you to find them more easily.
8. Add Any Attatchment
The Mail app now allows you to attach any kind of file. When you long press on an email and choose Add Attachment, it takes you to the iCloud Drive first and you can choose any type of file.
9. Find Your Friends
Find My Friends is now a stock app that appears on your iOS device. It also has a Notification Center widget with iOS 9, so you can see where all your pals are using location services.
10. The News App
Apple showcased its new News app at WWDC 2015 this year and you get that on iOS 9 on your iPhone 6 as well. Choose from the list of publications Apple has tied up with and get news from around the world.
iOS 9 Availability
The iOS 9 is available as a free software update for iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 5s, iPhone 5, iPhone 5c, iPhone 4s, iPad Air 2, iPad Air, iPad 4, iPad 3, iPad 2, iPad mini 3, iPad mini 2, iPad mini and iPod touch fifth-generation.
