Samsung came out with Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge recently in India. Both the smartphones are nothing like Samsung has ever come out in years. We reviewed the Samsung Galaxy S6 and lets find out whether this smartphone is worth your money or not.

What’s Good?

The build quality is superb, they have done away with plastics and used glass and metal finish here and this one is a beauty. The front and back panel of the smartphone is made of Corning Gorilla Glass 4. The round metal edges give the phone a sturdy look. Overall a nice grip in the hand and it does not feel as bulky as a Galaxy Note series phone. Finally Samsung has come out with an Android smartphone that looks gorgeous.

The 5.1” Quad HD Super AMOLED display is super-bright and highly non-reflective under direct sunlight. It’s by far the best AMOLED display on a flagship smartphone. This is a very sharp display as it produces a pixel resolution of 2560 x 1440 and has a pixel density of 577ppi. That is even more than what you get on an iPhone 6.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 is a performer too. It has a two quad core processors, One clocked at 2.1GHZ and the other at 1.2Ghz, backed by 3GB RAM. Samsung did not use a Qualcomm processor here as they think their own CPU unit is powerful enough. And they are right in a way. The 64-bit enabled AnTuTu test score of 65096 was over the top.

The 16 megapixel rear camera comes with Optical Image Stabilisation that is fantastic. The fast follow focus also is super quick compared to other android devices in the league. The camera also features auto real-time HDR and fast f/1.9 aperture. The camera app is also easy to use and navigate into.

But the real showstopper for the camera here is the phone’s ability to take high precision images in low-light conditions. For people who party all night under varied light this is the best camera available on a smartphone today.

The 5-megapixel front-facing camera is also pretty decent for taking selfies.

What’s Bad?

The battery! This is where Samsung was not innovative enough. We wouldn’t have said this if Xiaomi had not launched the Mi 4i in India last week.

Samsung this time around went with a non-removable battery on the Galaxy S6. It is a high-density 2550 mAh battery. A similar battery is packed inside the Xiaomi Mi 4i (3120 mAh) that is even marginally smaller than the galaxy S6. Having said that, the battery is still not that bad. It will last you easily a day with still some spare juice (Under 10%) in it.

The Fingerprint scanner is another area of trouble for the Samsung Galaxy S6. No matter how much you try it’s not as responsive as the one you find on an iPhone 6.

Why Buy it?

The S6 comes at a whooping price tag of Rs 49,900 for the 32GB storage variant and Rs 55,900 for the 64GB one. But then what do you expect from a flagship device?

Mind you, it’s still cheaper than an iPhone 6.

Overall Samsung Galaxy S6 has got great specs and the looks to kill. It has everything going for it.  Android lovers, this was the powerful smartphone that you have been waiting for. Go ahead, The Quint says buy it.
