1. Pothole Injuries: HC Bench Fumes at BBMP Defiance, Warns of Contempt
The high court on Monday described as ‘complete defiance’ BBMP’s failure to give wide publicity to the fact that citizens who suffer injuries or damage because of bad roads/footpaths can seek reasonable compensation from the civic body.
A division bench headed by Chief Justice Abhay Shreeniwas Oka wanted to know why action under Contempt of Courts Act should not be initiated against the civic body, which consistently failed to comply with court orders on this issue.
The bench noted that the order passed on 21 October did not indicate the Palike should grant compensation even in frivolous cases.

2. Seven Students Arrested in Bengaluru for 'Ghost' Prank Videos
Playing pranks on unsuspecting people to record videos and put them up on social media turned out to be costly for a group of seven youths who were arrested by police early on Monday. They were later let off on bail with a warning.
A few passers-by in Sharif Nagar, Yeshwanthpur, who were shocked and scared after confronting a man dressed like a ghost, alerted the police.
The police rushed to the spot and caught Shaan Malik, 20, Naveed, 20, Sajil Mohammed, 21, Sakib, 20, Syed Nabil, 20, Yusif Ahmed, 20, all residents of RT Nagar, and Mohammed Ayub, 20, a resident of Nagawara, and brought them to the police station. The accused are students of city colleges.

3. 75-Year-Old Bengaluru Man Arrested for Allegedly Shooting Dog With Air Gun
A stray dog was shot at three times with an air gun in Bengaluru’s Jayanagar 5th block on Monday morning. The police have arrested a 75-year-old man in connection with the incident.
A group of citizens noticed the brown stray dog lying in a pool of blood. They called for help, and then rushed the dog to Jeeva Pet Hospital in JP Nagar in an auto.
The x-ray reports showed three air-gun pellets in three different places in the dog’s body. The images also showed that there was a long superficial cut on the dog’s body near the chest area.
The Jayanagar Police said that Dr C Shyamsundar allegedly shot the dog as it was dirtying the spot outside his house. "He told us that he shot the dog as it had been dirtying the spot right outside the gate to his house. We have arrested him and booked him under relevant sections of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act," the Jayanagar Police said.

4. Using Cubbon Park for Photoshoots? You May Lose Your Camera
Professional photography and videography have been banned in Cubbon Park for close to two years. Breaking this rule will be a costly affair now. The horticulture department, custodian of the park, has decided to seize cameras and other photography equipment from those found violating the ban order.
G Kusuma, deputy director (Cubbon Park), horticulture department, said they will also levy penalties on the offenders. “There’s no ban on regular visitors taking photographs or indulging in nature photography. The problem is with professionals who come with big cameras, flashlights and reflectors. There have been cases of TV serials being shot at the park. Though we have been warning such professionals, they seem to be taking us lightly. I have instructed my staff to confiscate the equipment and levy penalties on violators henceforth,” she said.

5. Bypolls: 1,361 Stations to Be Set Up
With the bypoll to four Assembly constituencies in the city scheduled on December 5, the code of conduct is already in effect in K.R. Puram, Mahalakshmi Layout, Yeshwanthpur and Shivajinagar segments.
Addressing reporters here on Monday, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Commissioner B.H. Anil Kumar, who is also the District Election Officer, said though the model code is in effect only in these constituencies, officials will be keeping an eye on the neighbouring constituencies as well.
Explaining, he said that though as per rules, the election officials cannot take any action on events that could be perceived as wooing voters, action could be initiated against the organisers if complaints are received about the same.
