What if Bollywood Remade Some Dude Films with Women in Lead Roles?

It is indeed a man’s world when it comes to Bollywood. Yes, you read that correct. Honestly, do you think that women enjoy the same punch and blockbuster status that men reap?

So when Salman Khan rubbished the gender disparity in income claims, we wished we could do something to his smug little face.

The good news is that all this is slowly changing with an increase in films where women play central roles – Piku, Queen, Gulaab Gang, English Vinglish.

We at The Quint decided to take five films and replace the male leads with female characters.

Sholay

How cool would it be to have women in the lead in some ‘dude’ Bollywood films.

Imagine Sholay without Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra. Ludicrous right? There just cannot be another Sholay, another Gabbar Singh (sorry Akshay Kumar), and another Basanti.

But, what if we remade Sholay with a twist? Have our favourite actresses run around Ramgad and kick some serious butt? How about Bajirao Mastani lady leads and real life good friends Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone play Jai and Veeru? And Shabana Azmi as Gabbar, echoing “Kitne aadmi, sorry, aurat the?”

Now that’s going to be one badass film.

Don

How cool would it be to have women in the lead in some ‘dude’ Bollywood films.

The only actress who can successfully outdo Amitabh Bachchan in Don is Juhi Chawla. The actress did outshine Madhuri Dixit Nene in Gulaab Gang with her deft portrayal of a negative character.

Juhi’s gentle face would belie her darkness, and we believe she can perfectly don (we couldn’t help punning) the character.

Bajrangi Bhaijaan

All one needs for this remake is Kangana Ranaut.

We’ll bet money on this, kyunki Bajrang Bali ki kasam, Kangana would be one helluva actress who’ll add her Rajouri charm to the character.

Deewar

If Deewar was to be given an all-women spin, who better to star in it but the Kapoor sisters – Karisma and Kareena.

It will not only be epic watching Karisma in an anti-hero character, but also superbly exciting to hear Kareena Kapoor Khan deliver the evergreen melodramatic “Mere pass maa hai” dialogue.

Mr India

How cool would it be to have women in the lead in some ‘dude’ Bollywood films.

Our Mr India or rather Ms India will feature Sridevi in the lead, and not the side-fiddle to Anil Kapoor she played in the original. The roop ki rani has impeccable comic timing, and her razor sharp dialogue delivery makes her an extremely versatile actress.

Mogambo khush hua!
