Gautum S, a medical student from Chennai threw a dog off a three-storey building, and his friend who shot the video, were suspended from their college on Wednesday.
The two were arrested on Tuesday, but after they were produced before the Sriperumbudur Magistrate court, they were granted bail.
The dog was miraculously found alive, and is currently at the Madras Veterinary College for treatment. Her rescuers have decided to name her ‘Bhadra.’
According to a Facebook post by the people who rescued the dog, she was unable to walk properly but was “still wagging her tail”.
Shravan Krishnan, an animal rights activist in Chennai and founder of Hotel for Dogs, an animal shelter, posted details about how they found the dog.
In a horrifying video that surfaced online, a man is seen smiling as he throws the whimpering, terrified dog off the roof. The video ends with sound of the dog crying out in pain.
When the police, accompanied by activists, went to arrest the duo, they were found absconding. Even Blue Cross of India had launched a campaign on Facebook to nab the perpetrators.
Crippled For Life
Even though the dog is alive, she is not able to walk properly. After her treatment on Wednesday, doctors revealed that she has a fracture in her right hind leg and her spine. The incident has left her “crippled for life,” the doctors added.
The five-month-old dog is expected to take four to six weeks to fully recover. She is currently undergoing treatment at the Madras Veterinary College.
